Hello hello! Can I get some clarification from ya'll on your thoughts on having pre-reception food for guests while you and your bridal party are taking photos? My fiance and I booked our reception venue and included in the quote (for $500) is a meat/cheese/fruit/veggie display for guests before we get there. We're having a "station style" reception - with a mac & cheese bar, mashed potato bar, slider station - not your traditional sit down or buffet style dinner.

He seems to think we don't need this pre-reception food, but as a constantly hangry person, and knowing how important food is to ME when I'm waiting for people at a wedding reception, I disagree. So... hit me with your opinions! We have about 225 guests invited (that's our guest list), so who knows how many will actually show.

What do you guys think?

They need the food... if your running late you don’t want guests hangry tbh

If you have enough in the budget for it I’d say go ahead. But personally I wouldn’t and that’s just me

YES! Everyone gets snacky, especially when drinking. And people like to socialize around food. Both of our families are big foodie people, so everyone lives for food lol. If you wait until dinner for your guests to eat, you will notice a lack of energy and concentration for dances, speeches, etc. Everyone will be hangry!

For sure! That's a great deal and I'm sure your venue will display the food beautifully. Also if they're drinking during the pre-reception, some food would be good because who doesn't like to eat when they're drinking but to also prevent overly intoxicated guests later in the night

Yes, do! Have a few appetizers (you can get less expensive options) along with soft drinks, coffee, maybe some minature desserts and muffins. You don't need for 225 guests, but for 100 should be enough and have a coffee / soft drink station set up -- see if they can do that in lieu of a bar. During your reception, you'll have plenty of food and I assume hard liquor bar service. I think that is a good comprimise.

We are doing a charcuterie table for cocktail hour while we do our after the ceremony pictures. This gives your guests something to do and keeps them busy instead of getting hungry while they wait on you. We also have a popcorn station and a candy bar.
