Pre-wedding pampering: Massage

Allie, on August 20, 2019 at 12:40 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 17

Who is treating themselves to a massage as part of their pre-wedding pampering? I'm considering scheduling one the day before our wedding. We have to pick someone up from the airport at 9:30 AM then go get our marriage license. The only other activities planned for the day is dinner and TopGolf. I've never gotten a massage, but I've always wanted to. Do you think it would be worth it or is scheduling something going to add stress? Most of our guests won't be arriving until dinner time next Friday.

I booked a couples massage a bit before the wedding so we can just unwind from the stresses of planning

I would go for it. I've heard that scheduling a massage or going to the chiropractor can also help with posture in photos, in case you need more of an excuse to do it lol

I would do it 2-3 days before. I thought we wouldn't be busy the day before, but we were. Rehearsal in the morning, rehearsal dinner at night, husband needed a belt, we did a casual group lunch, etc. I didn't do a massage (should have) but I did do manicure, pedicure, body scrub, hot oil scalp treatment, dermaplanning, lash lift & tint, and O2 facial. I felt really happy & relaxed & confident in my skin, I'm glad I did it since it was such an important day! If you do schedule a massage, make sure to let them know you've never had one before so they go lighter! It would suck to be sore from a deep tissue on the day of your wedding. Drink A LOT of water after!

I just recently got a deep tissue massage, and it left me sore the next day! Just something to consider, but there are tons of different massages and it could have just been my experience. It was definitely relaxing though

Do it! You won't regret it! So amazing at any time but especially before big events like this.

I did a massage a few days before my wedding to help relax. We then booked a couples massage for the day after too. Be careful since some massages in the past left me sore/bruised and with neck pain. If you haven't been before, opt for light pressure when asked. You can always ask them to be more firm later in the session depending on your comfort level.

I would go for it sometime in the middle of the day so you don't have to rush to the appointment, and you can go take a nap to relax more if you want to. I'd definitely go with a Swedish massage (aka something just for relaxation and not for loosening your muscles), and be sure to drink water before and after. I talked to my FH about doing the same thing, and he wants to do it a few days before since his family is going to be around the day or two before the wedding. So if you wanted to push it back, scheduling a massage right before you leave home could be a good option too.

I would go a few days before. If you don’t have a masseuse that you normally see, you might not know how much pressure is good. sometimes I have felt sore the next day and you don’t want to feel like that on your wedding.

To echo what others have said, I would go a few days before because a massage can actually make you sore the next day. I get at least one a month and I am almost always slightly sore the next day, sometimes very sore depending on how much pressure she uses.

Ohhh great points everyone. I hadn't thought about being sore. My body is weak sauce so might be best to skip it. I could only go the day before. I think the spa offers a foot massage, so I may do that instead.

As others have said, deep tissue massages can be painful. I hate deep tissue massages for that reason, and I stick to strictly Swedish massages. I have a massage therapist lined up to come give massages to myself and my bridesmaids as a surprise the day before the wedding. Turned out to not be too expensive, and I think everyone will be pretty excited about it.

I did a massage and facial a few days before my wedding and loved it. Personally the day before the wedding seems a bit stressful to me. There may be unforeseen last minute things that come up that you need to deal with.

Hey Allie! This sounds like a wonderful treat to destress.

Whenever I've had a massage I've been very sore the day after, so I would definitely recommend if you're going to have one the day before, ask the masseuse to go very light as opposed to deep tissue, working out knots, etc. Smiley smile

I would do it, however, not the day before. Maybe do it a couple days before, I've come out of massages feeling great but the next day I was sore. Just something to consider, like the other ladies have mentioned Smiley smile

HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting a massage before. I was the MOH in my sisters wedding in June and I took her to get one together two days before and she was a ball of nerves up until that point. I know it doesn't take all the stress and nerves away but for 90 minutes you turn off your phone and just relax!
