Pre-Wedding Waxing?

Abigail, on July 9, 2016 at 11:08 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 25

So I'm getting married in mid-November, and we're going on a cruise to the Bahamas on our honeymoon. I've been considering getting waxed (legs, bikini, etc.) Prior to the wedding day. Any tips or suggestions? I've heard it's painful, so I can't say I'm looking forward to it! Just trying to decide if it's worth it. How long have your waxes typically lasted, were there any strange reactions or outcomes, and how far in advance would you recommend a wax before the wedding to ensure that any reaction has dissipated but it will still last well through the honeymoon? I would definitely get a small area tested well before November. Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't wax anything for the first time if you've never done it before especially before your wedding. What if you have an allergic reaction?

Honestly, start doing the entire areas you want to get waxed a few months in advance...not just small sections. That way your skin can get used to it. The first time I got my brows waxed, it looked like mosquitos attacked my brow ridge. Since then, there's been less irritation each time I go and now there's really no itching or bumps at all. I always go to European Wax Center and I go every 4 weeks just for brows. I'm not brave enough to do anything else.

I used to do waxing for a bit and honestly the hair is so prickly and uncomfortable when it starts to grow back. My DH prefers natural bush because of this!

You definitely want to start to get waxed earlier on, so your skin can get used to it. My skin always breaks out after waxing, in particular on my face and bikini area - it is not a cute look. Even if you don't happen to break out, your skin might be red if it is sensitive (I've had esthetician burn my skin before which is also why it is nice to start earlier, so hopefully you can find a good one).

One last reason why you should consider getting it done earlier than the day before your wedding: your private parts might be in pain: sitting and walking might be uncomfortable, not to mention you might not feel too amorous because of it on your wedding night (generally only lasts 1 day).

I'm not saying that you'll definitely feel like I do, but you don't want to be finding it out on your wedding day, if you do.

Waxing makes many people, including me break out. In fact, the last time I got my eyebrows waxed I broke out so badly, that I am just going to pluck my eyebrows instead for the wedding.

You will want to get this done multiple times before going on the wedding or honeymoon.

My lady does a combination of waxing and sugaring for a full Brazilian. been doing it for years and love it - I go ever 4 weeks. i also suggest going a few times before the final one. I'd suggest 2-3 days before ur wedding day. if you're worried about pain - advil an hour before and munch on a few tums on ur way in. good luck and enjoy the silky smooth! Smiley winking

Also before your waxing service you can take a ibuprofen for any swelling and a antihistamine for any reactions

I got my armpits done a couple weeks ago to test for the wedding. I'm so glad I tested! My armpits looked they had suffered a major trauma for like 4 days. Bruising, broken blood vessels, swelling. It actually didn't hurt much, but it sure looked like it did! I did like the result after it cleared up, so im going to try again next week and see if it gets progressively better.

I actually had my first Brazilian yesterday - another vote for European wax center. Honestly it hurt a lot but it was over really quickly ETA i would start going at least a few months before your wedding

I have some redness and tenderness for the first 24 hours after a bikini wax. I'm not going to lie, it hurts bad, at least for me. Especially if you do a Brazilian. But it's totally worth it. It takes about 2 weeks before the hair is really noticeable. I go to European Wax Center. Cheap and good.

Start getting waxed now so that both you and your body are used to it by November.

I wouldnt wait until a wedding for it to be your first time. Try it now and see what you think. Some people have irritation and thats the last thing you would want.

Definitely do it several times before your event. I have really sensitive skin so I bruise slightly every time I get a bikini wax. I treat the area with Neosporin for a few days afterward which helps with the redness and sensitivity. Good luck!

I say European Wax Center as well! First wax is free and there's a great referral and points program to make your waxes come out cheaper if you don't do the wax pass. It's also all beeswax, GREAT for sensitive skin like mine.

I personally started every 4 weeks, now I can go up to 7-8 weeks with very little growth. I also only have a little pain for about 6 hours after the wax, so the day before might be okay if you're used to it by then. But I'd definitely start going to see how you react to it.

Lastly, your waxer will get a better idea of your skin and hair and make better recommendations for time between waxes, products to use, and when you should go before your big day! Smiley smile

I see a lot of people saying European wax... I have a question for you all, did they try to constantly up-sell when you first went? I got asked probably at least 5 times to buy extra this and sign up for that... To a point where I didn't want to go back! I can't stand places that don't let you go in and do your business and leave without being bombarded with sales tactics.

On another note, the actual service I got was great!

I agree with going a few times first to get used to it. Waxing is not pleasant, especially the first time! But I do recommend it. I'm currently in the process of getting laser hair removal or I'd definitely be waxing. My hair started growing out 2 weeks after my wax & id go back 4 weeks after wax. I've never had any reaction from it & hopdgully you won't either. I also recommend European wax center. It hurt less than other places I've been

& yes @donna, they are constantly trying to sell you something. But their tweezers are by far the best I've ever owned (bought them with my points)

@Donna I just ignore it since I know a lot of places MAKE the employees recite sales pitches, regardless of commission or not. So I know they're just doing their jobs.

With that being said though, they do have amazing products and sales.. So I at least consider what they're trying to say. And you can always ask for a sample of a product before committing to it! You might actually love it.
