My advice: take what they say with a grain of salt. My FH and I had a horrific experience and wish we didn’t waste our time with it. Hopefully, you have a better experience.

The people who run PreCana are normally just parishioners. They’re not professionals by any means so the advice they give is not something to be taken to heart. At our PreCana, for example, we were told that women should never wear sweatpants because a man should never see his woman like that - she should care how she presents herself to him. We also were told that there was no such thing as infertility and that sex should happen only during the fertile seven days per month so that conception can happen, other times are a sin. These are all things that these specific couples believed and they found ways to make it sound like it was what the church wanted. Just be prepared for people who believe they are holier than thou to a nauseating extent.

The Catholic Church requires pre-marriage classes or retreats. In a nutshell, it’s their version of ‘How to be Married 101’

Pre cana is marriage preparation for couples getting married within the Catholic Church. I'm sorry that it sounds like some people had horrific experiences. We really enjoyed our experience. We met twice with a couple from our church and then attended a marriage seminar within the diocese. It was surprisingly insightful for the both of us. I think if you go in with an open mind and heart, then you may find it surprising experience. However, keep in mind that you won't be able to delve in all that deep because of time constraints.

If you take it seriously, you can hopefully learn a lot. Not all mentors are bad..many are very informative. Just go with an open-mind.

Ours was okay. We did the Engaged weekend. There was aspects that we really liked and others that we didn't. We felt that we had already discussed many of the things beforehand. It was nice to be able to focus on our relationship without all the wedding/life distractions.

Hey guys thank you so much for all the input! I'm sorry some of you had not so good pre cana days.

Mine wasnt too bad. A little long : 9-430, but pretty interesting. We had work books that asked questions like our goals, how we deal with conflict, how we handle emotions, etc and we wrote our answers than exchanged books which started a lot of discussion which was good. They also served breakfast and lunch which is always nice.

    Thanks again everyone!!!

Thank you for mentioning this question. We will be meeting with our church after Easter to set up our PreCana and details for the wedding.
