Pregnancy announcement - Is this the norm?

Mrs. Sitz, on August 29, 2016 at 6:25 PM Posted in Married Life 0 39

I received a pregnancy announcement from someone and I can't help but feel like this couple is basically saying, "We're pregnant and need baby stuff!" Am I wrong? I know people send birth announcements and baby shower invites but pregnancy announcements too!? Am I really that behind the times? Please enlighten me.

Did the announcement ask for gifts? Maybe they just want to share their joy and let everyone know. ETA: Ive heard of it, just never seen one. Im old so maybe its old school (ya know, presocial media)

I've never heard of it but perhaps they just wanted you to know before they put it on their social media. Unless it says something about gifts, I wouldn't assume that. Then again, you know the couple better than we do.

I've seen them on social media, FB, cute YouTube videos, etc. But never in the mail or anything.

    Weird.

Seems odd to send something in the mail like that, but maybe they're not social media people, who knows?

It's a common thing. Like people do engagement announcements

I have never seen one of these outside of social media, but maybe they are just super excited/ had a hard time getting pregnant?

I received one about a year ago. I didn't think anything about it. They didn't have a registry or anything on there

This isn't the norm, but I don't think it's fair to assume they're begging for gifts unless there's a registry on there. It seems they're just excited.

Is this someone you are close to? Did they post on social media before you got it? Is the first child to the couple?

The only one (not on social media) was sent to my grandma from my cousin. I think she did it because they did a photoshoot and she wanted to let important people know before they posted on social media. It was also the first child so I think they were overly excited by all the "things" pinterest tells them to do lol.

I've never heard of sending a pregnancy announcement in the mail. I've seen people post cute announcement pictures on Facebook, and I've had friends and family call me or sit me down in person to tell me they're expecting, but never a card in the mail. I don't see an issue with a simple card in the mail announcing the news, but I don't think it's necessary. I think the only bad part is that they stated they needed baby stuff. Save it for the shower invitation.

Oh, shoot. I just reread your OP. They didn't actually announce "we need baby stuff?" I don't think they did anything wrong.

In my world, it has been relatively common. Like, "I'm super excited I just had a kid!"

Never have I seen any of them ever have a registry or ask for gifts.

Ok, Thank you. I just wasn't sure what to think. I'm sure they're just excited & maybe I'm just being judgemental.

By the way, yes, it does have a registry.

It really does have the registry?! That's inappropriate. Back to my original comment!

It seems grabby to me but I'm cynical.

Jesus, that's weird, but it's just another byproduct of entitlement.
