Pregnancy announcement - Is this the norm?

I received a pregnancy announcement from someone and I can't help but feel like this couple is basically saying, "We're pregnant and need baby stuff!" Am I wrong? I know people send birth announcements and baby shower invites but pregnancy announcements too!? Am I really that behind the times?...

The registry info is inappropriate. But pregnancy announcements are common. They were very common before social media.

We posted anouncements with the births of our kids and gave hard copies of them to our families and godparents but in no way asked for gifts (nor received any because of an announcement). They were just the hospital and professional pictures of them we wanted to share.

I probably wouldn't side eye just an announcement, especially if the couple had a hard time conceiving/other situation. But they have the registry on there too? Major side eye. That's like putting registry info on a STD.

I would make a point of not attending a shower and not getting them a gift at all, just on principal.

I've heard of pregnancy announcements. I'd say normal and not gift grabby.

Just to be clear, we are talking about pregnancy announcement, not BIRTH announcement? I have never seen that or even heard of that as a thing. And I have existed pre-social media.

Oh there is registry info? Oh goodness. Then it seems gift grabby to me.

All the ones I've seen have just literally been "hey I've had a baby"

FH and I sent out pregnancy announcements to close family and friends but no registry! I'm talking like grandmas, aunts and uncles and best friends.. Like a total of 8 announcements sent via mail. After we sent them we posted it on social media! I've never seen a pregnancy announcement with registry info that wasn't associated with a shower. I think that's odd personally!

Add: then we sent out birth announcements obviously once our son was born!

So I'll admit that I've never received a pregnancy announcement, but I have received a dog adoption announcement in the mail lol! I don't think it's rude unless they include a registry on the announcement

My brother and his wife sent an announcement. It had the two of them in the background and SIL's previous son in the front with a sign that said "i'm going to be a big brother"

It just had her expectancy date. They also sent one after she was born. They were just super excited about it.

If this is their first pregnancy I would assume they are just overly excited and wanted to share their news. I have seen it a lot recently, mainly because they expecting couple like to take cute "announcement" pictures. I'm sure the couple will eventually have a baby shower which in that case you would give a gift. No need to right now though.

I sent out an adoption announcement for my dog - but it was actually my Christmas card.

I have never heard of a formal pregnancy announcement. Usually I see something on social media but honestly I feel like it's all gotten out of hand. Gender reveal parties grind my gears, announce the sex at the shower. I don't want to go to two parties and spend money on two different gifts.
