Pregnant friends and hen dos - now they aren't coming and my hen do was arranged to be pregnancy friendly!

Kirsty, on October 18, 2010 at 7:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

I have a pregnant friend, and another friend that is trying to get pregnant. My ideal hen do would have been a day at alton towers (roller coaster park in the UK), but because of my two possibly pregnant friends I dropped that idea as impractical.

It took time to think of ideas about what else I could do for pregnant ladies and also be fairly inexpensive. My sister has offered her house in the middle of the country, so travel isn't too horrendous for any one person, and I'm buying a murder mystery game for us all to get into character and do.

Only now my pregnant friend has decided she wont come, as she'll "spoil the party by needing to go to bed too early". And my trying to get pregnant friend isn't yet.

I now feel like I've compromised on my dream hen do, unneccessily.

On top of that, 2 more of my closest friends can't come.

I've no right to be annoyed at my pregnant friend (she didn't know how she would feel) but I am!

Is it too late to go back to your plan of Alton Towers with the remaining friends since the pregnant ones won't be coming?

It's too late. The roller coaster park closes for the year on the 7th november, and the only date my sister could have made before then has been and gone.

Yeah I sent her an email now saying my sister had already said she was willing to give up her bed if she wanted to go to bed early, so hopefully she'll change her mind. I know she's pretty tired at the moment. She's 44 and expecting twins. I don't blame her, I just wish she'd said earlier when I sent out the first emails about it!

This is a great place to get some of these frustrations out and express totally understandable disappointment. I'm a roller coaster fan myself and your original idea sounds like a blast! In the end it is probably best to let that go and enjoy a day with your girls. Whatever you do, as long as you are with friends and celebrating it is bound to be fun. In this case YOU are the party so throw yourself into it and just enjoy it for what it is. If it makes you feel better maybe you can plan a day in the spring to hit the roller coasters with a few like minded, non-pregnant friends.

A day at the roller coasters would probably be a bit of a flop if I'm honest. None of them really like them much - thought my hen do was the perfect time to make them do what I want Smiley tongue But if they aren't enjoying it too, there's no fun it it for me.

Murder mystery was never a goal in my life, but I'm sure we'll have fun anyway!

Kirsty I'm sorry they're not coming to your party. On a happier note, you can go do something you really want to without having to think about how it would affect everyone else. What about a day at a spa, or wine tasting in the country?

Haha aw. Well if it makes you feel any better, the hen do/bachelorette party is pretty unimportant, comparatively speaking! I don't think I have a "dream" bachelorette party. If you're getting your dream husband and having your dream wedding, that's what's important! Try not to let the silly little details get in the way of that. Just try to have a fun night with your friends.

I plan on it Smiley smile The key bit though was "with my friends" and half of them wont be there! hey hum, nevermind eh

Thanks for the suggestions tee, but it has to be very very VERY cheap, and local to my sister's house since we're all sleeping on the floor there. If all it ends up being is drinks in and a sleep over it'll still be fun. Bacon butties in our pjs will be all I need Smiley smile
