Premarital Counseling

tonyita, on February 5, 2012 at 11:07 PM Posted in Married Life 0 9

Has anyone gone through a premarital counseling that was not costly. We are not currently members of any church so therefore we can not go that route but would like to do some type of premarital counseling or classes that will not cost out life savings :-)

Our officiant offered an online thing to us that was included in their fee for performing the ceremony.

Marital and pre-maritial counseling is often covered under your insurance for your co-pay. My husband's work has a EAP, and it covers premarital counseling in it's entirety for free! It's worth looking into...

There are also non-profit agencies that offer counseling services for low prices as well.

Sorry I read your post wrong at first.

But Meghan is right, there are alot of non-profit agencies out there that maybe you should check out.

Ours was through the Catholic church (pre-cana). It was free for the counseling and then we paid $150 for the Engaged Encounter weekend. Unless you aren't religious at all, I would still recommend asking the local churches. Most of them will perform the service for free even if you aren't members because they want to reach out to the community. We aren't members at the church, for example. But yes, I think non-profits would do it as well like the other ladies said.

Megan is correct. Most insurance plans will cover counseling. You just have to find the right psychologist that specializes in premarital counseling.

Tonyita, We are attending a counseling through a church and there is no fee. We are not members but were going to see about donating to that church. Smiley smile

Definitely check into both of your employer's HR departments and see if you have EAP services. Usually, the first three sessions of EAP is free for any reason. A lot of people at my last office utilized their EAP sessions for premarital counseling.
