Prenatal vitamins and hair growth

Chrissy, on June 15, 2013 at 8:50 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 11

I have a question. Is anyone on prenatal vitamins and not pregnant? I'm trying to grow my hair out for the wedding, but have super fine hair. A friend recommended I switch to prenatal vitamins to help strengthen it. I've read online that there is no correlation, buti figure did ask anyway. Is anyone on prenatal vitamins for similar reasons? Does it work?

I've never heard of this. I've always heard biotin is the preferred supplement for growing out hair and nails.

I lopped off all my hair 2 years ago and it seemed to be growing back REALLY SLOWLY. I was freaking out because I want to have longer hair for my wedding this October. It does seem to grow faster when I remember to take biotin regularly, and I notice a difference in my nails too. It was very cheap at Target.

Biotin is much better. Plus, check with your doctor before beginning prenatals unless your pregnant. I know a lot of women use them with no issue, but I know of two people personally that had hair loss and other issues when trying to get off them.

I will say that my hair and nails grew like crazy when I was pregnant, however the previous posters may be right Biotin might be a better choice for you right now... As far as it causing hair loss after, I think that's more because of hormone changes after pregnancy, or at least that's how my ob explained it to me. Good luck!

I've taken biotin in the past, makes your hair and nails longer and stronger. Had no weird side effects, some ladies have side effects from biotin

It works! I couldn't get my hair to grow past a certain point until I started on them. I'm not pregnant

I think it's the pregnancy more than the pills honestly but who knows, they made me sick (that could of been the pregnancy) so I was always bad at taking them. However they are safe to take before pregnancy many doctors have women go on them while they are TTC.

I friend took pre-natal pills for the same reason. It's didn't change her hair, and she gained 15 pounds in 2 months.

Wow, good to know. Maybe I'll try the Biotin instead... Definitely don't want to gain 15 pounds.
