prenatal vitamins

Weddingbliss, on May 30, 2014 at 7:14 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 11

So, I have been seeing my gyno due to possible problems with me being able to get pregnant. She told me to start on prenatal vitamins even though we are planning on trying to concieve a few months from now. With all the appointments and blood work and the information/ options constantly discussed in every appointment I totally forgot to ask her if prenatal vitamins cause weight gain? I know I shouldn't worry because if I want to get pregnant I will gain weight, but the fact that she wants me to start them a few months before we start trying and my wedding being a month away,I wonder if it will cause me to gain weight before my wedding day? Does anyone have any experience with taking prenatal vitamins, did they cause weight gain?

I took them with my 1st pregnancy and I gained weight, but I think that was all due to baby.

Their just vitamins, I don't see why you would gain weight. Prenatals are amazing vitamins!

@MrsSmedstand Yeah I mean I'm not worried about weight gain after the wedding because I know that's what happens when you're pregnant. I just worry because she wants me to start them so far in advance, and I have a wedding coming up. The last thing I need to weight gain, but after my wedding if I gained due to pregnancy then off course I wouldn't care. I totally forgot to ask her, everytime we meet there is so much to cover I forget to ask!

I've always taken prenatals...they're better than multi vitamins, plus they're great for my hair and nails Smiley smile

As far as weight gain, I didn't see any difference until I actually got pregnant...lol... and they didn't seem to stop me from losing the baby weight.

@Stacy That's good to hear, there are so many mixed reviews on them I don't know what to think. My doctor takes forever to call back so I thought I would ask everyone here!

Hey, I work as an RN in OB

You are safe to take them without the fear of gaining weight.

The extra pounds will come from the baby when you do conceive Smiley smile

Like the other ladies said, they are just a special multivitamin with no drugs or anything in it so it won't make you gain weight.

I've been taking them for the last month or so since we plan on TTC next month and I haven't noticed any weight gain.

Though I would suggest you take them with a meal, sometimes they can make your stomach upset.

I have always taken prenatal vitamins. they are good for your hair, skin, and nails!! I will say when I was pregnant with my 1st they made me sick. I couldnt take them, even with what little food I could manage to eat.

I take them now, but I'm pregnant...however, I don't not believe that they cause weight gain. They are strictly vitamins. Good luck w/ conceiving after the wedding.

No weight gain. I'm a RN, you have to build up your supply of folic acid especially because if you are deficient it can cause birth defects. So they are great to be on before you conceive and during pregnancy. They usually help your hair and nails grow too! You need lots of calcium,

Iron and folic acid supplements during pregnancy. Certain vitamins can possibly make you nauseated if they have a lot of iron in them, so always take with a meal. The vitamins need fats and water to be absorbed properly. Hope that helps
