Preserving Wedding Bouquet with Silica Gel

Ryan, on April 25, 2021 at 6:23 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 1
Hi everyone!

We just recently got married and now we're in the process of trying to preserve everything. We are wanting to preserve the wedding bouquet and the boutonniere with silica gel but when we looked up how to do it, a lot of sites are saying that you need to break apart the bouquet, cut the stems, and then put them in a bucket with the silica gel.
We were wanting to know, instead of breaking apart the bouquet and cutting the stems, can't we just put the entire bouquet in like a 5 gallon bucket that has a lid, fill it up with silica gel and call it a day? 😂 Is that something we can do? Has anyone done it that way or a different way? TIA!!

I think of you Google around you’ll find instructions to do it that way. I’m just not sure how much silica you need and how long it would need to sit with the silica.

Having done this with the blooms cut from the stems, I’ll tell you the blooms are very very delicate when you’re digging them out of the silica. So if you did the whole bouquet I don’t think you could fully submerge or bury the bouquet in the silica without pulverizing it when you dig it out. So something less than fully submerging would have to be the answer. Best of luck!
