Preserving Your Wedding Cake To Eat It On Your One Year Anniversary?

The Bride, on June 30, 2019 at 5:04 PM

Preserving the top tier of your wedding cake and eating it on your first anniversary is becoming more and more popular. After much thought and consideration, my husband and I decided to do it. Are you preserving your wedding cake for your one year anniversary? Why or why not?

I heard of it but it wasn’t for us. We didn’t even consider it.

My wedding planner told us about it when it was time for us to order our cake. I don't love the idea of it but my husband wanted to do it so I said why not.

We are not because we are actually having donuts at our wedding! We will also have a small cake to cut, but we don't plan on saving any of it.

We ate the top tier within 3 days after the wedding. Haha. To be fair, I only had a bite of the cake when we cut it. I wanted more! Plus we didnt want to drive the 14 hours home with it.

I will not be saving the cake, mine will have lots of fresh fruit and whipped topping and I can only imagine how horrible it will taste. Instead I will just be ordering the same flavor cake again for our anniversary.

We are not, because the baker doing our cake includes an "anniversary cake" in her price. So we'll go back on our first anniversary and she will make us a fresh cake 😊

I did persevere my cake but I plan to just go back to the bakery and get another one. They have special for ppl who purchased wedding cakes that they will give you a free top layer the following year.

No. Neither of us wanted to do that. We'll order a cake from the same bakery that did our wedding cake to enjoy fresh on our 1st anniversary.

As someone who has done this (1st marriage) for the sake of tradition....please don't! Unless you like crunchy icing on cardboard, then by all means. Have detailed photos taken and have it re-created for your 1st anniversary.

No we didn’t save ours, don’t think it would taste good a year later. We ate it with my husbands parents and extended family from out of town a few days later.

I don't plan on it, but if FH wants to, I will. We haven't discussed it yet. Seems pretty yucky to me though. I'd rather have our same cake vendor recreate a small cake for us on our anniversary.

Just got married on June 8th my husband and I are freezing the top tier for good luck. Thinking about also having the top tier re-made just in case it does not taste good lol

Just a short trip before returning to the daily grind. Our actual honeymoon trip will be in the spring.

I love the idea of having donuts instead of a cake or cupcakes. 🍩

I know right?! I thought the same thing when my wedding planner brought it up to me. But apparently people have being doing it for decades. You have to wrap your cake tightly in foil or plastic wrap to keep it fresh.
