Prettiest Courthouse in North Georgia

Gabsrm, on May 10, 2015 at 11:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

My fiancé and I are planning to get our marriage license at our closest probate court but then invite 6 of our closest people & do a little elopement/ceremony courthouse ceremony.

We think it'll keep the focus of our wedding on our union and make it an intimate, special moment.

I've found beautiful photos online of couples who have had a pro-photographer come along and take sweet vintage shots of the couple and the ceremony. But I want to be sure that the setting creates that kind of vibe.

Has anyone visited courthouses around north Georgia? Do you have pictures you can share? We are willing to consider anywhere from around Atlanta up to the mountains, east of I-75. I may have to drive around and just check them all out...is that a crazy thing to do? Will I get arrested for taking photos of courthouses?

Help!?!!!

It's a little weird only because courthouses are tyically in government buildings that aren't quaint or cute or setup as venues. They are just offices.

Actually, the office in NYC, on worth street, went over a massive renovation, and it's quite nice now.

I'm in Texas but my friend got married at the courthouse here and she had a photographer after the event take pictures at a local pretty setting. If it's illegal to photograph the courthouse would you be willing to do that?

In Illinois, we had some really beautiful courthouses. The original architecture is just stunning. Then you have ones that are as AndixLyn said... They're just offices. I'd do a Google search for historical courthouses in Georgia and start calling them.

Before you make your decision, contact the court to make sure they allow professional photographers to take pictures. And if so, how much. In LA County, you have to have permission to take pictures and they charge you and provide a guide who will walk you through the permitted areas.

I'm not familiar with North Georgia but I think your wedding sounds great. There are so many courthouses with amazing architecture so I'm sure you'll get some beautiful photos.

A lot of courthouses allow for professional photography (in limited areas and outside) and many are beautiful with lovely architecture. Some are more strict (and office like) but I'm sure you'll find one that will suit your needs! I don't know Georgia but if you Google "Georgia courthouse wedding" you may find photography blogs that have posted weddings/elopement at Georgia courthouses! That's how my FH and I found the nicer ones in CA when we were initially planning on eloping.

Hello Gabsrm, My name is Jenny violinist in North GA. I have played in some real nice places in north ga. Gwinette Co courthouse might be a place you might consider. It is detailed with old charm and they do a lot of weddings there because of that. https://www.gwinnettcounty.com/portal/gwinnett/Departments/CommunityServices/ParksandRecreation/RentalVenues/IndoorFacilities/GwinnettHistoricCourthouse/Weddings

I'm not familiar with Georgia but in Dallas Oregon there's a beautiful historic courthouse (still in use) with a tower you can go in. I'd Google the crap out of historic Georgia courthouses.

I've seen a few shots of couples just doing elopements at the Old Decatur Courthouse and the pictures are so amazing. It's not in use anymore so it's turned into an event venue but they are open hourly for photo shoots
