Pretty Postcard Postage

SH, on September 3, 2015 at 8:19 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

We got postcards for save the dates, and one of the draws was that postcards cost less to mail (35 cents as opposed to 49 for a standard letter, which adds up when you're mailing a lot)... but now as I'm looking for stamps the only ones I can find are either some "coastal bird" set offered by USPS or 35 cent stamps by Zazzle that you have to pay over a dollar a piece for since they're custom. Any advice on how to keep postage cute on postcards without paying extra?

We just got some postcard stamps at work that weren't the birds. I can't think of what was on them but it wasn't the normal bird ones. I think they had apples? Maybe if you check at a different post office branch, they might have a different selection.

Go with the birds no one is going to notice what stamp you use

Don't spend extra money on stamps. No one cares what stamps you use, you're literally decorating trash. It may be on someone's fridge for a few months until your wedding, but the picture side with information will be facing out, not the side with the stamp. After that they'll throw it away. You'll find later that the extra money spent on stamps would have been much better used somewhere else.

ETA: Not saying your STDs are trash, just that most people will end up throwing them away.

It's probably less expensive to go with a forever 49 cent stamp if you dont want the birds-- they have more options. But, I'm with everyone else who says no one cares. I had the old postcard bird stamps (34 cent) on STDs. We bought enough for the RSVP postcards, but then postcards went up. I put the 1 cent tiffany lamp stamps with the birds on the RSVP cards, because IDGAF. FWIW, I only would have spent like, $20 to get new postcard stamps, but spending 80 cents was better for me. Unfortunately the USPS only makes one postcard stamp design, now the coastal birds, before the rate change the hummingbird. Going to a different post office won't help. I ended up just using the stamps available for my postcard save the dates. Most people won't notice, it is a very small detail. I was more picky with the stamps for my invites and rsvp because I had more options available. I ordered online from the USPS, where they have all of the options available.

I had this same dilemma because my reply cards are postcards - I just went with the birds. My local offices didn't even have those, so I had to order online. It just really wasn't worth it to me to pay extra for postage that nobody notices anyway.

I just used the birds, and I don't think anyone even noticed. No point spending extra for postage
