Preventing Centerpieces from Tipping

Megggle, on June 23, 2016 at 8:08 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

Hi Ladies!

I recently took my mom up with me to finally see our venue in full bloom and we decided to take up a centerpiece mock-up just to see what it looked like on the tables. My mom is a freaking foliage genius and I'm so in love with it! The only problem we might have is that since they are very tall (the vases are 24 inches), we are worried about possible tipping since the reception will actually be outside under a large marquee but there may still be some wind or bumping into tables etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions on different ways to weigh it down or have more weight distribution on the bottom? Thanks!

You could possibly do pebbles in the bottoms? It would put some weight down there and not too noticible.

I agree find some stones or pebbles and put them at the bottom to weigh it down some.

LOL - you know you've been spending too much time on WW when your first response is "Why would Centerpiece tip you? What are you doing for her?"

We're using polished coloured stones at the base of our vases. They look great with the flowers.

@Cheyenne and @Becoming a Mrs: So far pebbles or rocks was the only thing we could really think of. I don't mind the idea at all but my mom is very particular and she doesn't think she will like the "separation" between the rocks and the sticks since the sticks would have rest on top of the rocks (does that make any sense?) I've basically given her free reign with these since she's really excited about helping with the decor.

@MrsF2B hahaha! I never thought of it being read that way, that's hilarious!

@Antonia thanks for the suggestion Smiley smile I only saw your post after my response.

Does anyone have any photos of their own centerpieces that are using pebbles or stones for the bottom? I'm curious to see how yours turned out.

I know exactly what she's worried about with the rocks and the sticks. It's a valid concern.

I can only think of two other options. Use the rock idea, but then find a thick ribbon in a coordinating color and glue that around the bottom of the vase. It's will hide the rocks without ruining the aesthetic.

The other idea is hot glue the bottom of that vase to a mirror or piece of glass (or even one of those tree slabs that are popular). You'll have to do that onsite. This method is not for an eternal bond -- the vases could dislodge in transport or while being carried. But, it worked like a charm whenever we had clients who insisted on using clear eiffel vases with heavy drop-in arrangements. They are notoriously bad when it comes to tipping.

No one will notice pebbles at the bottom of your centerpiece vase

@Centerpiece Phew! I'm glad you know what I'm talking about. I hadn't considered the ribbon idea, I'll definitely pass that on to my mom and see what she thinks.

I think she'll definitely consider the mirror or piece of glass idea though! Thanks so much! I told my mom to stay away from eiffel vases because they scared me lol.

@Jacqui722 I totally agree with you but tell that to my mom and she will have bad dreams about it lmao.

What about the clear glass 'rocks' that are used in vases?

I'm with Brittany C what about sand.

Pebbles and rocks are definitely an idea.

I like centerpieces idea of hot gluing it to another item like the mirror or wooden slab too then it will give it more balance.

What about colored sand? It will give it that added weight you are looking for. You can also do the clear glass pebbles, they won't be too noticeable.
