Price of Dress Bustle, Updated in comments

Kimberly, on July 15, 2011 at 9:10 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Hello,

So I made an appointment with the seamstress that my dry cleaner recommended. I chose not to use David's Bridal b/c according to them I waited to long to decide on having the dress bustled and they said there was no way to get the bustle done by November. I didn't even ask a price from DB. I am curious as to what is the average price of this? I don't think my cleaners would send me some place where I'd get ripped off.

My bustle was 104 and it had 4 snaps in it due to the tiers on my dress.. so yours will probably be cheaper

Wait what my wedding is the day before yours and i just went in for my Alterations at DB. they are busy so you need to book ahead of time..

i choose to do 2 bustles and over and an under. the bottom layer is geting the under and the chiffon layer is getting an over bustle. so mine came out to 90$.

this was about the same price that the seamstress from my grandmother church quoted me.

Mine was $20 and that included having the halter buttons taken in...DB is ridiculously expensive - definitely find a local tailor or even reputable dry cleaner and you'll save a TON of money.

It depends on the type of bustle and the complexity for your particular gown- but you should budget about $100

I'm getting a 2 layer French bustle and a hem for $450.00. I guess my alterations are on the higher end.

I dont know how my much my bustle cost but I found a great private seamstress that works out of her home. She is charging me 150 for a 5 point french bustle, letting out the back, hem, tightening up the bust

Them telling you that it can't be done by Nov is ridiculous. My bustle was done in 3 or 4 weeks four months but then again I didn't get my dress from DB. I didn't want to go there cause I hear a lot of bad things about them. I can't remember how much my bustle cost but it was a little pricy because I have a pretty long train.

Either I have a terrible bustle or a great seamstress. I paid 140 for a bustle and hemming and it took 3 weeks! I have the dress at home now! I think I got ties though.

DB charges a base price for the first 3, and then a price for each after that. I forget what the prices are though.

I didnt have mine done there though. My mother did mine. We needed one for the skirt, and 2 on each panel that draped in the back so a total of 5, and it cost us just the price in buttons/hoops. So under $10. If you know a seamstress it can easily be done- they just have to do a bit of research if they havent ever done it before.

Wow there's a big range of prices. The DB nearest to me is the only store within 150 mile area. So ALOT of brides use them. I did not schedule the alterations b/c I started the FIT Works program. I lost the body fat and inches I needed to rid of and couldn't be any happier. I go in this Thursday and for some reason I'm more excited about this appointment than any other we've had.

@Anjuli, I can only dream my mom was that handy LOL.

@Rabbit, I didn't want a train, however FH begged me to make sure my dress had a train. It's not very long, it's style # SWG9902, to give you a better idea.

@Nicole, my MOH brought this up about a bustle when I fell in love with the dress. So yea I was learning too lol.

I am thankful my mom is so handy with the sewing machine- its saved us a lot of money as well as allowing me to have things i wouldnt if she didnt sew. Honestly after researching bustles and how to do them it really doesnt look that hard. Hardest part is deciding which one works best for your dress. I bet anyone who has even held a needle could do a bustle as long as they educated themselves.

My dress is going to have like 5 bustles because of the style dress, I am getting "cups" added so I dont have to wear a bra(which she threw in for free), and i'm getting the sides taken in and the total is going to be $80. It's someone who does it on the side
