I've been looking into venues lately and I'm pretty shocked at how much these places charge per plate!

My FSIL is getting married in a few months and her venue charges $45 per plate... But with taxes & whatever else they decide to add on, it's up near $59 per plate.

Should I then assume that if a venue says that their "wedding package 2" is $39.95 I'd be paying up near $50 a plate?

Those of you who have paid per plate- how much did you pay and what would you say is average? I'm trying to figure out what is reasonable.

I'm in Northwest Indiana, and I am paying $27.50 PP. That price includes the rental of the banquet hall for 7 hours, family style dinner with 3 entrees and sides,5 hour premium open bar, linens and colored napkins, chair covers and colored sashes, cake cutting, Icecream, and bartenders/waitstaff.

Not included is security officer $100.00, sales tax, and 10% gratuity.

Overall I think I got a great deal!

Danielle, that's an AWESOME price for all those extras.

I've been in love with a certain venue for quite awhile now. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth all the extras... There's quite a difference between package 1 & 2.... A couple grand, actually. One of the major differences... Package 1 only includes a champagne toast for the head table whereas Package 2 includes a champagne toast for all guests.

Is this worth the upgrade in package?

And by the way, Future Mrs. Jacques- that food looks DELICIOUS. I'm so glad my venue's site doesn't have pictures... I'd be heading there tomorrow with my down payment... Haha.

Because of the entree we chose, it will be $18.95/person here in the Houston, TX area.

All I know is we got married June 30 and our caterer was the worst the girl that I was use to dealing with left the company. The owner who was a man said he could handle it well guess what he couldnt my wedding was a disaster. I will never reccommend Top Shelf Catering They are Horrible

My $88 per plate is also off-season pricing at our venue, and discounted 20% because we booked late (TG, or we'd have kept hunting lol- normal price is 120). However, that includes:

    Dinner

    Premium liquors

    cocktail hour

    Dinner wine

    Champagne toast for all

Cake cutting and service w/ice cream, plus the anniversary cake

    hall for 7 hours.

Hall centerpieces if we want them (we dont though lol).

    Custom colored napkins

    Coffee & tea service

butler passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour

We did choose to do the upgrade (an additional 13 pp), for the dinner wine and the champagne toast for all. I felt like us having champagne and them not would make it look obvious that we were trying to save money, and when you're hoping people will give you a gift equal to your plate cost, I didnt want to seem cheap Smiley smile

Our venue had meals that ranges from $16 pp to $25 pp. Because we are doing a rustic theme we were able to stick with the $16pp(buffet style barbeque) plus $2 pp for nonalcoholic wine and $3 pp for unlimited soda. Neither one of us drink and neither do most of our immediate family so we are not paying for an open bar. There is a bar at the facility if they want a drink. So we got away with $20 pp approximately plus the gratuity.
