Pricing venues

Kelly, on February 5, 2022 at 11:57 PM Posted in Planning 1 4
Thanks to everyone who so far has responded to my questions! So, I find the pricing for venues to be confusing. Some include more and do seem more expensive yet other venues that seem affordable don’t include the dj, flowers, photo etc. we likely have a close friend doing wedding photos as he does that anyways for work and our friend will officiate. So that leaves dj, cake and flowers not included. Can anyone give me an idea of what a dj or flowers and cake cost in southern or central CA? I know it depends on many factors such as size and how fancy one wants things. Say a dj for the reception maybe goes 4 hours including eating time. Our venue if we pick it is highly decorative so I don’t think a ton of flowers would be needed. Small wedding, 42 guests max só cake would not be huge. Any ideas? What did you guys do for music when walking down the aisle? Did you hire someone for that or simply play music? I also don’t know how to go about hiring a coordinator. Should I? Living in another state from where I’m getting married, it seems a smart choice to do that. Not sure how to pick a coordinator. Thanks everyone.

A lot of the cost will depend on much you are willing to spend. DJ in SoCal can start at 450 and go up. Flowers are going to depend on what type you want and if they are in season and since their is a flower shortage going on pricing may flex but it is cheaper to buy the flowers and DIY them for your bouquet, boutonniere and décor. Cake will depend on the quality, size and design you want but a place I love in SoCal called Torrance Bakery starts around 350. YES please have a coordinator especially of you weren't in the same state you are getting married at, if you can look for a wedding planner who can act as a day of coordinator.

So I made a sheet that says the name of the venue, the services they would provide, the deposit amount and the final total (according to the quotes I got) and that really helped me see which venue had everything I wanted and was still in my budget.

If you’re looking in CA and are on Facebook, join the Something Borrowed, Something New group. It’s made of thousands of brides and vendors who are predominantly from CA (and SoCal at that). There are tons of coordinators, florists, DJs, etc that can help you with costs and offering of services. I found my florist on there who I contracted to do $2k worth of flowers. She’s now out of state and floral costa have definitely gone up, but they may be able to give you a ballpark number if you detail what you want.

You can search for flower, DJ, and cake pricing in the “Vendor” feature of this app by your location. If hiring a DJ, they will play music at the ceremony as well as reception.
