Pricing

So, I'm trying to start making my budget. We know how much we're spending on menu and food and have a budget we want for photography, but no one has prices for hair and makeup! I want like an estimate for how much! We only really need make up for the brides and I think bridesmaids may be willing to pay for their hair since they don't have to pay for a shower and we're not doing anything big for the bachelorette party. What can I expect to be spending for hair and make up for me and what should my bridesmaids expect for hair?

You have to get price quotes for your area. This is an international forum so no two people even in the same city will pay the same prices for services or have the same budget.

Thumbtack.com is a good place to get estimates but you need to call vendors and venues for a specific price quote of the services/products you want. Get 5 or so quotes from vendors for the exact same services from each and go with what you feel is the best choice for customer service, etc.
Bridesmaid expenses and expectations need to be given and agreed on before you ask them. Keep the expenses low for them. If you require a certain look for hair, you have to pay. A bridesmaid dress will only be worn once so keep the price at $100 or less. You are not responsible for their attire and accessories which includes shoes and jewelry.

I’m in a high cost of living area and bridesmaid hair/makeup ranges from $75 on up to $1000 per person. Bride hair/makeup starts at $100 up to $2000. Most websites say they barely touch the bridesmaids at all because they focus only on the bride. Those got scratched off the list.

This really depends a lot on where you live and how established/in-demand the artist is (especially for make up artists). For example, makeup for myself and 3 bridesmaids is costing me $1600 ($400/person). However, one of my friends got married in another state and makeup for herself and 5 bridesmaids was only $700. Hairstylists I think typically run $100-200 for the bride, and $50-100 for bridesmaids. But again, it can vary depending on where you live. I would suggest researching HMUAs in your area and reaching out to the ones whose work you like for price quotes.

I found alot of beauty stylists on the wedding wire app and their prices are listed under the FAQs. In my area, the range is like $85 - $200 for the bride make-up and a little less for bridesmaids. I found one I like that did hair and makeup for bride at $200.

Agree with other posts. I’d also suggest adding hair & makeup trials into your budget. Idk why but I didn’t think about that when I started planning.

Echoing what everyone else is saying, it really depends on your area and the agreed upon expenses for your bridesmaids. My FH and I live in an urban Midwestern city, but are getting married in the farmlands of Pennsylvania. MUAs here in KC are waaay more expensive than the MUA I ended up booking in “rural” Pennsylvania. And she’s ridiculously talented! I’m also taking on the cost of the MUA for myself + my bridesmaids, because a) I knew I wanted this specific MUA regardless of what she charged and b) she specifically needs a bridal party of at least 5 to travel to us. I personally wouldn’t dream of making my bridesmaids shoulder any of the cost of this MUA, because I’m needing them all to get their makeup done by her specifically, in order to get her to travel to me. With trials, distance fees, and makeup for the entire bridal party, we’re looking at ~$500 (a STEAL!) vs several hundred more if we were getting married here in KC (instead of rural Pennsylvania).

I agree it really depends on the area my make up/hair stylist isnt far from my venue and with a trial of both Im only paying $300 and for my bridesmaids that wanted it done its around $100 but some of the artists I talked to were well over $500 just for me and that was without a trial. If you have time do some digging and you might be able to find one at a great price.

I’m in michigan and a company i’m looking into has a hair & makeup package for $185 (bride) and $165 (bridesmaid). the hair alone i believe is $85 for bride and $75 for bridesmaid. but it all depends on the area you are in!

I'm near NYC. Paying $250 for my own HAMU and $190 for each bridesmaid (traditional makeup, not airbrush). You also have to account for a 15 to 20% tip just like if you were at a salon.

Echoing the others that it definitely depends on your location. Our budget of $2k for hair and makeup was about enough to cover myself, 4 bridesmaids, and the MOB and MOG (we went a bit over the $2k mark after tip). This was 2 years ago in summer 2019.

Do keep in mind though that if you're requiring the bridesmaids to have their hair/makeup done, then you'd want to cover their costs, but if it's optional then your girls can pay on their own. This would be important to determine before having discussions with potential vendors, because some have minimums that you'd need to meet.

I think every area is different. For me I am budgeting about 400 for hair and makeup. We aren’t having a bridal party but my best friend is marrying us and she is getting her hair done. She agreed to pay for it. My mom and mother in law are getting their hair done too but i am trying to see if we can pay for it.

That's a good point about the tip. I don't know why I haven't thought about budgeting for that. Thank you!

Hair and makeup will vary greatly depending on location, travel, products, are you doing false lashes, extensions? I’d start contacting companies for their rates and availability.

I'm in NYC and prices varied greatly in the Tri-State, ultimately I ended up going with a MUA who charges $200 for my bridal hair and makeup, bridesmaids are $170, if they want makeup alone its $80 and that includes traveling to the venue.

Hair and makeup prices are all over the place here in Florida but I've found that like most things, you get what you pay for. I'd suggest trying to find some place local. Also, if you're looking for how much to spend Wedding Wire has a great breakdown how much to spend on each thing. Hope that helps.
