Printing Envelopes- Frustration/Rant

Mrs Slover, on December 23, 2013 at 9:37 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

So I have been trying to figure out how to print addresses on my envelopes. I have a macbook and was using pages' template for an envelope, but had to adjust the size to be A7. When I go to print, I have to change the paper type, but envelopes are not an option! I have no idea what to do. I have been so frustrated with this I just want to scream.

Which leads into the fact that no one wants to help me with anything, except FH. I am nearly in tears I am so frustrated that nothing is working right.

I wish I knew what to tell you to do. Have you thought about doing address labels? Most computers have a template for them and they are pretty simple to work with. I hope that helps. Good luck!

@Kate my handwriting is not great, and neither is anyone else's that I know.

@mrsadams2014 I would prefer not to do labels because I think they aren't as personal. I am going to figure this out!

I have no clue how to do anything with a Mac, but Microsoft Word has easy mail merge templates if you have that.

I just have Pages. The problem is when I go to print, my settings don't allow me to choose 'envelope' as a paper type. I think it is partially an issue with the printer. I have no problem creating the envelope itself, it's figuring out how to print the dang thing that has me ripping my hair out.

Is there a setting where you can just change it to the size of the envelope but not actually choose envelope as the paper type?

Ok, so im not sure about macs, but another alternative is to download the sticker templates and buy a bunch of mailing labels and you can also use those. They are just as nice and you can even add little heart clip arts or whatever to match your theme

also I know with my printer when I did the invites is a lot of work you have to adjust the size also if they have a size for an envelope or even google how to changes ettings on your printer type

Or you can just send the file to Staples or Office Depot and give them the envelopes to print

Okay with Microsoft word you can select custom or other for size. Measure your envelopes and input those sizes. Cut a sheet of paper to the right size, test with that and adjust placement as necessary. I hope that helps

Your handwriting doesn't have to be great. Mine is ok. My mil has awful handwriting but everyone still got their invitations. Not worth tears!

Can you choose 'paper feed'? I just selected template--envelope, picked one, tried to print and chose paper feed. It might also be that your printer doesn't have that option

OMG! I had this problem and it sucked. 2 days to print those damn envelopes! I do not have a Mac though, so I cannot exactly help. The way I figured out how to do mine was to call customer service for my printer. I know, that sounds weird. But I couldn't get it to print on my RSVP envelopes because they were so small. I called, they walked me through it and envelopes are printed Smiley smile

Absolutely. Many printers have a tough time with them because they are so small. I printed stacks of 5 at a time. Which sucked and was time consuming. However, it kept them from jamming. There is a work around to trick the printer into printing them but aligning the addresses is a time consuming pain in the you know what. I hope you have extra envelopes on hand for trial and error. Good luck and I feel you pain. Just know its so worth it when you finish printing them.

Someone else already suggested it but the easiest way to do it is to NOT put it on the envelope setting. Leave it as a regular page document, and simply change the size of the paper (i.e. you have a 5x7 envelope, change the paper to 5x7). Just format everything on that document the way you want it positioned. Put the envelopes in the manual feeder and print.

    Good luck Smiley smile
