Printing your invites at FedEx/Kinko's, need advice

Alondra, on August 11, 2011 at 5:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 12

The title says it all. I'm printing my invitations at Fedex/Kinko's and I'm wondering what all I have to do to get this done. Do I cut out the cards and just tell them the wording and design? Do they cut out the cards themselves? Remember, all I need is for them to put the words on the paper. I don't trust myself to do this on my home printer. I want the invitations to look like this except the cards are dark navy blue and the wording is white ink.

Has anyone had an experience similar to this? I need all the advice I can get.

I'm not 100% sure about Fed Ex/Kinko's but I used to work in the copy center at Office Depot...so I'm going to assume that they have similar equipment. They should have a mass paper cutter (capable of cutting thick stacks of paper all the same size).

As for the printing, I'm not sure what they have available, but I know at Office Depot it was ink printing only....no white ink. White ink is something special. I would call and see if this is even possible there. You might have to go to a specialty printer. Otherwise you could do a white paper and print the dark parts. Typically printing full page color or a splotch of color is the same price at the copy places.

You'll also need to bring in your file. Turn it into a PDF if you can, to preserve the font that you want..just in case they don't have the one you like. =)

What a beautiful design! Jennifer H is pretty close! FedEx/Kinko's cannot print white on dark papers. This can only be achieved with special printing methods and a special kind of ink or foil. If you need assistance, I can provide pricing on a custom order for you from Carlson Craft. They have the capabilities to print what you are needing, but did you already buy the paper?? It would have been a good idea to get a quote on an item like that before you did all that work. I would be happy to help you find a solution. We have printed silver on navy blue cover stock. White can be done over a silver primer, but this is not cheap, and it also requires an extremely talented and experienced pressman to make it look right, (which we happen to be lucky enough to have). Feel free to email me for more information, if you like.

I had mine printed at Fed Ex. They were simple straight line rectangles. I would not cut them until they are printed on. However, if they have it available, you may have to pay more for white ink. Call them and/or stop by and show them.

Mine turned out beautifully. However, mine were also totally uncomplicated. I paid .20 a piece.

    Good luck

Another thing to think about with Kinko's... Have the file EXACTLY as you want it printed. If they have to do anything with it there is a $10 fee for each file they have to manipulate. We had our invitations done there and printed on 8.5x11 paper and needed two per page to save paper (I had my own). It cost $10 to have the girl copy the image and paste it next to the original.

So when taking the sample of how I want them printed (wording and design), do I take it to them just printed out or on a disk?

You were asking me about vistaprint....

I'm not sure if you bought your kit yet... but these would be $6.41 (they would have a glossy finish) $15.40 for matte finish... and then you would just need to buy envelopes from a stationary store. The ones on VP cost a lot for the nice ones and you can find better deals out there.

    Alondra-

I actually just went to Fedex/Kinkos this weekend as well for the printing of my invites. All I want them to do is print the wording for me 'cause like you I dont trust myself. What I had to do is lay out the wording with the exact measurements of the invite on word pad in the font you want to use. Save it to a usb, flash drive or CD & take it to the location your going to print them. And they will print for you by the amount of invites your needing. The color of Ink makes a differencein cost black is always the cheapest way to go as well. If you dont set it up ahead of time on a flash drive or usb the Fedex/Kinkos can set it up for you however they charge $50.00 to set it up plus what they will charge for the invites. I'm being charged $25.00 to print 100 invites. I'm also having my table numbers printed here at .10 cents per page. I hope this info was sufficient enough.

    Good luck!!

@Alondra - Did you have only invites or did you have the RSVPs as well?
