Pro makeup for engagement shoot?

Alyssa, on September 26, 2019 at 1:50 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17

FH and I will be doing our engagement shoot hopefully next month at our wedding venue-a beautiful beach resort in the Florida Keys a few hours from where we live. I am contemplating hiring a pro that I would later book on the wedding day to do my makeup. I think it would be nice to pamper myself and feel pretty for the day, but I also have a lot of experience doing makeup for camera and kind of want to save the $200 for other things. What are your opinions?

I think getting a trial done to use for engagement shoot is a fantastic idea ! but it also sounds like you're capable of doing a good job on your own make up so depends on whether you want to save yourself the hassle of yourself doing it and saving money.

I did my HMU trial the day of my engagement pics. Worked out great! If you’re getting your HMU done the day of the wedding you need a trial anyway, so why not?

If it's your trial for the wedding, I say go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend the extra money. But that's just me. I don't wear a lot of makeup, so I just added some eyeshadow and lipstick to my usual makeup for the engagement shoot. If you have the experience to do it yourself, I say save the money Smiley smile

It's not my trial-my wedding is in June so I won't do a trial for several months until I have my veil and stuff. Still unsure, but thanks for the ideas ladies!

I went to Ulta to get my hair and makeup done. Granted, I never wear makeup and don't know how to apply it really so I needed someone to do it for me haha

I'm doing my hair and makeup trial for the engagement shoot. I figured, why let it go to waste?

If my makeup was going to cost $200, I would have skipped it. Mine was a quarter of that. I also feel capable of doing my makeup myself, but I wanted a trial before the wedding and wanted to do it quite early in the event I wanted to change makeup artists. I just did my trial the day of the engagement shoot (and built in time to redo it if necessary) and it worked out beautifully.

I kind of like this idea-it's complimentary as long as you buy something, right?

Yes, it's complimentary as long as you spend $55 on products which is like maybe 1.5 items lol

I paid $200 to my HMUA to do my hair and makeup for my e-pics. I wanted to look amazing especially since I planned to enlarge a few to frame and hang in my house. I paid $250 for my trial several months later for the wedding. For me, it was all money well spent.

I’ve you’ve got the money and extra time in the day, sure why not. But, you also said you’ve got the skills to do it yourself. I had My engagement photos yesterday. Only had enough in my budget for hair ($50) and was pressed for time because I couldn’t take off more than a half day. Did my makeup myself and came out great! Saved me $70+ that can go towards something else. But if you wanna be pampered do it!!!

You could save some money if you can do your own makeup. I did my own makeup for our engagement photoshoot and for the wedding I didn't do a makeup trial, both photoshoots look great.

I'd say if you want to do your own makeup and save that much money, go for it! Especially since you have pro experience, that is a bonus. I'm going to ULTA for my engagement shoot in a few weeks to get my hair and makeup done since I'm only slightly skilled in hair and makeup, but would totally do my own if I felt confident enough in my skills.
