Processional music ideas?

Alison, on March 31, 2016 at 11:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Let's hear ideas for wedding processional music. We will have a pianist and a violinist so I'm looking for instrumental music. I like the instrumental version of "Kissing You" from Romeo and Juliet but was hoping to find an equally beautiful song that isn't so instantly recognizable. Any ideas?

We are doing a string version of Your Song by Elton John! Vitamin String Quartet has a lot of instrumental tributes that are pretty good!

@EleanorRigby I was thinking about that for the first dance.

@Danielle Z, aren't you worried it's too long? I wanted "How Long Will I Love You" by Ellie Goulding but FH wanted something more... Us.

@EleanorRigby That is what my mom was saying, I was thinking of cutting it down a bit maybe. I think I like your idea as well of using it for the processional instead.

I'm doing Canon in D - obviously recognizable. But - for the family they are playing "so this is love" (from Cinderella). We have a string quartet.

    Ooooh!

@Susan I need more "pre-processional songs" I'm going to probably steal that! Or even that Beauty and the Beast instrumental... Idk.

@Elanorrigby - It is super pretty. My string quartet is learning it for my wedding.

Other songs I am using (instrumental) are: over the rainbow, a dream is a wish your heart makes, all I ask of you (from Phantom), I haven't really made my full list yet - but those are the ones I know. But - once the girls start walking in I want Canon in D. That's always been my dream with strings.

I can't do over the rainbow and it's in my do not play list... It was at my stepmoms funeral... But I love it so I'm super sad.

I am walking down the aisle to "How Long Will I Love You?" by Ellie Goulding, because it made me cry haha.

I fully considered doing "Liz on Top of the World" from Pride and Prejudice and "The Light" by Album Leaf as the songs for the Bridal Party to walk down the aisle too, but I was worried it went weird together. We chose the instrumental version of "All of Me".

We had a string trio for our ceremony, these were our song choices for the processional:

Seating of parents, grandparents, groomsmen and officiant entering: Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring

Bridesmaids, fower girl and ring bearer: Pachelbel in Canon D

We are professional musicians and as our gift the principle cellist and his wife (pianist) from the symphony here are playing Christina Perry's "1000 Years" for all of us to proceed in....no here comes the bride stuff as it's a 2nd wedding for us both....and we've been together for TWELVE years now! They will also play prelude and postlude music.

During our wine ceremony his son-in-law, who is a music teacher, is going to play guitar and sing "Storybook Love" from The Princess Bride.

After cocktails, dinner, cake, and other stuff we will have live music but not a dance per se....we will sing to each other, have a vocal group, drum circle/jam session, and his son who just cut an album will then crank up the volume with his bandmates.

I am hoping to keep my emotions in check and be able to play piano and sing him a song I wrote....have been minorly recorded back in my day (we're old now ya know!)....at the reception.

If you go to musicnotes.com there is a whole section on wedding music where you can type in the instrumentation, purchase and print....but check with your musicians first as they may have it already! Also...ask them...if they are any good, they have played many weddings previously and will have a play list for you to choose from. ;0)

Oh...and for our recessional....we're gonna crank out the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah....a bit of comic relief after TWELVE years in the making....
