Processional music - weird to have music with lyrics?

Becky, on July 18, 2014 at 9:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I know some brides do this but I wasn't sure how common it was so I don't want my guests to think it's totally weird.... if my ceremony processional songs (1 for wedding party and 1 for me) are not instrumental but actually are regular songs with lyrics? I would make sure to pick something slow enough to walk at a normal processional pace to. I am not having ceremony musicians -- just going to have my DJ play the music. If having a regular song playing would be too distracting in some way, I could try to find instrumental versions. What do you think?

My song has lyrics! My bridal party and I are walking down to "Makin Plans" by Miranda Lambert. The song is like 4 and a half minutes long, and the last minute and a half (when I would walk) is only instrumental, so it works out perfectly.

We decided on instrumentals for dinner only. Our entire ceremony is all real songs from the Prelude to the Recessional.

I think this is fairly common these days. As long as you are no getting married in a church with restrictions, I don't see any problem with using songs with lyrics.

Husband chose instrumental songs for moms and groomsmen/him from Star Wars. Bridesmaid walked into "Thank you for being a friend" and me to "Somewhere over the rainbow" - both those sure have lyrics! Lyrics are fine...way more interesting to me.

We chose lyrics for the wedding party and grooms entrance because he wanted the lyrics specifically (Waitin on a Woman). We teetered between instrumental and lyrical versions for my entrance. Ended up with an instrumental because it is easier to cut short and we found a version we like, but I think it is nice either way!

You are the bride! No matter what song it is, nothing will distract from you walking down the aisle! Smiley smile Smiley smile We chose a (slow) song for the bridesmaids walking down the aisle and I'm walking down to the traditional Here Comes the Bride. I think you should do what you want. It's your day and it should be just the way you want it. Music with lyrics is very common nowadays - it'll be great!
