Processional Song... motown/oldies

Chrissy, on April 17, 2015 at 2:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

I know that there are a lot of posts about processional songs but they tend to focus on pop songs from today. I cannot think of a song to use as I walk down the isle. There is no cocktail hour and guests will be at their tables during the ceremony. The DJ will be doing our ceremony music. All of the music at our reception will be motown/oldies so I'm looking for a good way to incorporate some into the ceremony music. I have an old soul when it comes to music so I'm not a fan of today's music much. Thanks guys!!

I'm walking down to "Today I Met the Boy I'm Gonna Marry" by Darlene Love because after our 2nd date I knew he was the one, downloaded that song and listened to it over and over Smiley smile

You looking for something fun? Or something a little more emotional?

How about "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke? I love the line, "now I find myself wanting to marry you and take you home".

Probably something fun but I'm interested in ideas for both. Something tells me FH will be weirded out if i stray too far from the norm.

    What's the norm for you?

The norm for me is Motown. If someone suggested John Legend, I'd laugh in their faces.

And if I may pop in to say that Tears of a Clown is probably the worst suggestion anyone could've given. Ever.

Well on the silly side, we love the song Papa Loves Mambo. It has nothing to do with weddings, it's just super fun lol. On a more sentimental side:

Fools Fall in Love (not necessarily the Elvis version)

Tony Bennett's I've Got the World on a String

Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight

Billie Holiday's The Very Thought of You

The Nearness of You which is a standard but covered by Norah Jones. Breathtaking.

Im a big van morrison fan but I feel like he's a little overused for wedding songs. Same with Otis Redding.

I don't know if it's Motown but how about "Lets Stay Together by Al Green. That's going to be our first dance song.

ETA: you could youtube Motown artist, and see what comes up and then listen to the songs or see what you come with from this site: classic.motown.com/artists

Also check out Carole King stuff. She wrote for a lot of Motown-era artists that weren't necessarily on the Motown label.

We used "For Once in My Life" for our recessional Smiley smile

For a processional, maybe The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun" or Stevie Wonder "Overjoyed".

I'm using for the processional a bluegrass instrumental cover of Tupelo Honey.
