Processional song - traditional or not?

Kelly, on July 26, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 35

The classic Canon in D has been used countless times in the processional at weddings. Will you be walking down the aisle to a tried-and-true standard like Canon in D or “Here Comes the Bride”, or are you taking a more modern approach and having one your favorite love songs played instead? Definitely not traditional! All of our ceremony music is based on film scores we know and love. The processional for the Moms is from Little Women, processional for me is from the movie About Time, and our recessional is from Lord of the Rings. All sound amazing and beautiful on piano and are really subtle. This was one of our first ideas of wedding planning and has been SO fun to pick Smiley smile

I thought I wanted traditional, but didn't want Canon in D, and couldn't find another classical song that really spoke to me for that moment. We wound up choosing Book of Love by Peter Gabriel, played by a cello/violin duo, and it worked perfectly for us.

I walked down to Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles played on a duo of acoustic guitars - it was perfect!

So far I have my heart stuck on Canon in D, can't anticipate that changing and FH loves it too.

Definitely non-trad: my brothers played Strangers by the Kinks as we all processed, one of my BMs played Han and Leia's Love Theme from Star Wars on violin during the registry signing, and we exited to Ain't No Mountain High Enough, which also kicked off our cocktail hour playlist. i was soooo happy with our music!

I want our ceremony to be fairly traditional but romantic. We will have the family and wedding party walking in the Canon D and I will walk in to the Bridal Chorus by Wager. We will then exit to the Wedding March. All of this will be on piano and I will tell the pianist the style I am going for so that they do not play it to sharply.

Canon in D is beautiful, but as a violinist who had to play it countless times through middle and high school, I've grown to dislike it. So, we'll be going with more modern songs. For my walk down the aisle, I'm going with "Han and the Princess" from Star Wars!

I love this idea, a cool way to incorporate your favorite movies into the day! I love all the music in Lord of the Rings!

We are using non-traditional music throughout the whole ceremony. We are using Take My Hand by Emily Hackett. Such a beautiful song. FH and our wedding party will process while the man sings and then I'll enter when she starts singing.

I can't forgo my Canon in D but I won't be walking to it my bridesmaids will be. I am walking to the instrumental version of A Thousand Years. Haven't thought about a recessional song yet. (I got plenty of time though lol)

    More modern here!

I'm walking down to an instrumental version of James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go, since it's our song. I don't like the Canon in D, this is much prettier.

Un original Canon in D & I absolutely love it ! The Bm's and parents are walking into Wildflowers by Tom Petty played by our cocktail hour acoustic guitar singer & then the recessional is Best Day of my Life - American Authors. I wanted something more traditional in between for my processional, and honestly I think it's the most beautiful wedding song.

Not 100% sure on what I will be walking to, but I know for sure it won’t be traditional.

My daughter is singing a gospel song while I walk down the aisle...I will try my best not to mouth the words as well...I just love the song. Debating on do I play the instrumental version or the real version in the background in case she gets choked up. She'll have to let me know soon so we can tell the DJ so he can start to look for the music

Sounds like it will be beautiful!! Is it just a pianist or are there any other instruments?
