Professional hair and makeup for engagement shoot?

Allison, on September 9, 2019 at 12:35 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 15

We are doing our engagement shoot in about a month, and I'm wondering if people typically get their hair and makeup done professionally for their engagement pictures, or do it themselves. I thought about trying to find my hair and makeup artist for the wedding now, and scheduling my trial on the engagement picture day, but that could be risky if I don't like it. I also don't want my hair to be quite the same for engagement and the wedding. Thoughts, feelings, advice?

I did my hair and makeup on my own for the engagement photos but I wanted simple curls and I am confident doing a full makeup look. I know a lot of people on here do professional hair for their shower to do their hair trial for the actual wedding. That’s what I will Be doing as well. I am diying makeup for my wedding but if I wasnt I would do the same time for makeup as well. Also keep in mind engagement photos are well before (most of the time) the wedding. You may change your mind with what vendor you want to use for the wedding. Or the stylist could forget what you liked or didn’t like ect.

I plan on scheduling my make up trial for my engagement pictures, but with enough time to redo my own make up if needed. I will do my own hair.

I had event hair and makeup done (slightly more expensive than a trial but my HMUA weren’t available the day of my shoot). IMO it was worth it. I have thick heavy curly hair and having decent hair is hard for a normal day let alone a day high def pictures will be taken.

I had my hair and makeup professionally done for my e-pics. I wanted to look my very best for the pictures especially since I printed a couple out and framed them in 11x14 frames in my home. I still did a trial for my wedding about 2 months before the wedding. I had already used my HMUA previously for other events so it wasn't so much seeing if I liked her (I loved her) but more so for us to work on the wedding look together.

I’m doing my trial make up, but I don’t want my hair to be the same in the engagement pictures as it will be at the wedding so I’m doing my own hair.

I got mine done at Ulta. It turned out great and wasn’t too expensive.

We have ours next week! I was going to do it myself then felt like I should have it done professionally because they are really the only professional pictures we have and its a special moment. I wanted to have my hair and make up lady do my trial for this too but wasn't available. I ended up calling Ulta and scheduling an appointment for my hair and make up there. It's reasonably priced and I schedule;ed it so if I did not like it I have time to fix it. I am not doing anything crazy so I'm sure it will look fine.

I did mine myself... but I did not want to be too fancy even with second set of photos we did. I think its personal choice, whatever you feel like you should do and be happy with doing, I would do that.

I had my trial for hair and makeup done in February or so, and had her do my hair and makeup for my engagement photos in April! That way I knew I liked her! I’m OKAY with my hair and makeup, but I wanted to make sure the pictures looked good! I’m also going to sephora to use my VIB points to get a free makeover for my bridal shower!

We are doing our pictures on Friday and I decided to try out a MUA I'm considering for my wedding. I'm making sure I leave enough time between the makeup and photos just in case I need to redo or change anything myself. And if I love it then I'll be able to book her for the wedding. As for my hair I'm just going with a simple wave which I do all the time, so I'll be doing that myself.

I did get my makeup and hair done professionally, but mainly because I don't wear makeup on a regular basis (nor even brush my hair usually) so I wanted to look extra special and not like a clown...

I will be getting my makeup done for my engagement pictures, but only because the package I got through my MUA included it. But I do think I would have had someone do it anyway since we plan on displaying them during our wedding.

I wanted to look like myself for engagement pictures so I did my own hair and make up. I will be using a HMUA for the wedding but I felt capable of doing my own look for our photos and they turned out fine!

I'd definitely recommend getting your hair and makeup done in some way! There are going to be your first professional photos before the wedding so you want to make sure your look is perfect. I wouldn't do your hair trial on the same day because you don't want your wedding hairstyle to be the same. You could do your makeup trial, but you almost have the same issue. For my engagement photos I am just getting a nice blow out for my hair and then getting my makeup done at Sephora. Less expensive too if you're trying to save a little money, especially since you have to pay for your makeup and hair trials!
