Professional make up....

Sami, on March 30, 2023 at 10:21 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
So we are having a small, intimate wedding with 50 guests or less and paying for it ourselves without any help. I'm on the fence with hiring a MUA and if it's really worth the money to pay for a trial and day of, especially because it's not just me I'd be paying for, it'd be my party as well. We have a tight budget and I just want opinions if it's worth it or not!

I would say yes. But I never wear makeup because I’m terrible at it so there was no way I was doing it myself. We had 48 guests so also a small wedding. I totally understand the tight budget though. We paid for myself, both of our mothers and my MOH and one bridesmaid to get hair/ makeup done. That was $1500. Then the cost of a trial for myself. I guess it depends on your level of skill in applying your own makeup lol. But we all had a great time just hanging out together and getting our hair and makeup done

You can also ask the members of your bridal party who even wants to get their HMU done and have them pay their own way if you’re on a tight budget. You shouldn’t require it of course, but just tell them what the HMUA charges and asks who would like to get theirs done by the professional that day. Some people are really particular and don’t like having their hair and makeup done anyway.

I think most bridesmaids would understand if only you were to get makeup done professionally. If they are included, it should be by choice.

I am also having a small wedding with 50 or less, funding every thing on my own and trying to keep it within budget, for me I don’t see the point in the added expense when everyone has time to figure out hair and makeup without the added expense. That’s just me. If it means less stress for you, see where you can adjust the budget to make it work for you, whatever alleviates the stress for you.

Hair and makeup for the wedding party is their own responsibility. You are not at all obligated to offer to pay and they aren’t obligated to make use of the option if you did.

I had intentions of paying for myself and all my girls to get hair and makeup done but I ended up paying for myself and my daughter (one of my bridesmaids) I left it up to the rest of my girls if they wanted to get either hair or makeup done and all opted for hair paid for by themselves and one did their own makeup so. If you or one of your girls are really good with makeup you can see if they would like to do it. I’m hopeless with makeup lol which was why I had someone do it! Professional make up.... 1

So I do my eyes but never have done full coverage. This is my first attempt with nonpricey makeup so I can practice. I have until October to learn but I think for my first try it went well! This isn't bridal, just everyday wear style.

You look beautiful!, Do you feel beautiful? If you don’t feel it, adjust it until you are feeling it. I did my make up last weekend and asked for tips from a friend who does make up and does an amazing job at that, she strongly suggested not putting liner on the lower lid, just a little shadow of color along the outside. Truthfully, it made me cringe, because my go to is always black on the lower lid with a little shadow, but I see her point, it helps avoid running, in case we cry, and it makes our eyes look bigger, which I don’t really think I need that, but I’m still trying to take her advice, I trust her.

You do look absolutely beautiful, and I’m sure you’ll figure it out, you do have a time and you can practice and adjust as needed before then.
