Professional Photo Cloud Storage Advice

Haley, on April 27, 2023 at 5:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
This question is aimed to professional photographers & past brides. What is the BEST cloud storage for wedding photos/videos that doesn’t compress files/negatively affect quality of files? Willing to pay for services as well, as my wedding photos are very important to me and I want to enjoy them at their highest quality for a lifetime (without having to print them all out). Thanks!

Can you also have the photos and videos on DVD or Blue-Ray disks? I was not aware though that any online storage would modify file content in a fashion that would not be lossless.

Is there a specific reason to use cloud storage rather than an actual storage device?

If you mean actual storage device as say a USB or other physical copy, I’ve had several USBs that eventually get ruined and delete some content. Just not a safe “long term” option.

Sure you can, but those could always get ruined over time. I wouldn’t consider it to be a long term option necessarily.

Ive honestly never heard of that happening. I have USBs woth photos from 15 years ago that still work and are held together by scotch tape. 😂

However, I meant a memory card like you would put in a camera. They have a lock on the side to prevent copying over/deleting images.

Google drive. Drop box. Are these not viable options either?

The DVDs and Blue-Ray disks should have the longest lifetime. I'm not quite as sure about USB thumb drives because the physical decay can happen more readily than the disks. It is best to diversify by having prints, online storage and DVDs. The latter can be aided by giving family copies of the DVDs so they will save one as a pristine disk and maybe have a different copy for more regular viewing. Some of the concerns with online storage is that the feature could be terminated in the future and the privacy is lost once you do that.
