Pronovias Dress Alteration Cost

Rue, on August 23, 2021 at 11:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Hi all! I have a Pronovias dress that I absolutely love but it needs quite a few alterations (hem, shorten sleeves, shorten waistband, fix broken zipper/top button, etc.). The quote she gave me is a little over 1k which seems high, but I know it’s a designer dress and has quite a few things she needs to do.

Was wondering if anyone had alterations to their Pronovias or other designer dress and if this price is normal or not. I also live in the Bay Area which is not cheap, lol.
I could take it to someone else for another quote but I really liked her and I’m running out of time with a million other things to do so would rather not if possible.
Thanks all!

I don't think the brand of dress is relevant so much as what you need done, your timeframe, and where you live. The only way to know if the quote is "reasonable" for your situation and location is to get a second opinion from another local tailor.

I'm in NYC and just went to David's Bridal for my alterations. I had it hemmed, taken in a little, tacking a belt on and the bustle = $800. I almost passed out when I saw how much it came to but I'm clueless as to what it should cost. My feeling is this is a person who works on wedding dresses every day so knows what she's doing. I'd rather pay a little more for her experience and expertise than save some money and risk not have it done correctly.

I agree with Maggie - it wouldn't be to do with the brand as much as it would be with the way the dress is constructed, the nature of the alterations and the amount of time there is to complete what needs to be done. Depending on the way the zip has been sewn in, that alone is likely to require the whole dress to be basically deconstructed, and when you say shorten the waistband, I'm not sure if you mean, take it in to make it smaller, or if you mean vertically. If vertically, the only way to do that would be to dis-attach the skirt and the bodice, resize the bodice and then sew them back together. This, together with the zip replacement is a fairly big job.

But the only way you will know if it's reasonable is if you get another quote.

    Hi!
I also have a pronovias dress and am having it altered at the Pronovias Salon in NYC. Alterations were under $600

Depends on the dress and the labor required to make those alterations.

If your dress has appliques, beading, etc. in the areas that need alterations, it may require a great deal of deconstruction - I've seen where a seamstress straight up had to take the beaded appliques off the dress in order to perform the alterations. That's a lot of work to be done well, and definitely commands its price.
