Proper use of chargers

KMJ, on June 24, 2017 at 9:50 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

Hi all,

I was always under the impression that the dinner plate goes on top of the charger during the meal, but my mom said they are taken away when the food plate comes.

Which is correct? Or are they both correct?

TIA

I've never had a charger removed. It's always been under my dinner plate when I've had one at an event.

In formal dining the charger would be removed after the soup and appetizer courses, but modern etiquette does allow it to remain on the table after the main course is served. The charger would be removed with the dinner plate.

They definitely don't get removed. Typically the charger ties together the table decor

Thank you everyone! I was hoping I didn't spend my money for 10 minute decor

At the venue I work at we put a charger down when we set the tables. We put the salad plates on the charger and then after salads we take both plates away and you get a new plate with dinner (thats has dinner on it if course... we do 90% plated meals)

Here's what I was told. Most oeople buy plastic chargers, but they'll melt if you put the entree on them, so they're removed after the salad course. My venue said they would leave them if they were wood or metal.

I didn't even know what a charger was until seeing them used at an ex GF's house...ok, that wasn't helpful, sorry....but was a random thought flashback Smiley laugh

I legit had to google this to figure out what it even was. But according to wikipedia a charge is kept throughout the entire meal and taken away before dessert

So many different opinions Smiley smile maybe I'll test run a warm plate on one to see if it stands up to the heat. Thanks for the input everyone!

We sometimes remove them when we take salad plates......(we do this only if bride and groom have asked) otherwise we take them up when we remove dinner plates. I always think it's such a waste when we take them after salads.
