Proposal Box or Not?

Soon2BSmith, on June 28, 2019 at 9:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I'm adding up how much proposal boxes cost if I buy them on etsy or if I make them myself.

How much did you spend on prososal boxes? I have 4 girls that will need boxes.

The other option I am concerning is paying half of their flight ticket price which is about $100 pp. So, $100 flight gift card with a cute "Will you Be My Bridesmaid" card.

Are this girls that will most likely say yes??? If so I’d go with the gift card, if not I wouldn’t because I wouldn’t want to be put in a position I’m which I have to say yes!! I think is safer to go with the proposal boxes and just shop as if it was their bdays instead of personalized items? Or keep the proposals very cheap but cute and once it’s closer to the wedding offer to pay the $100 for their flights??

I already informally asked, and was told everything in between from "of course" to "hell yea" and "I assumed I would be".

So this would be more of a formal asking.

We will only have a honorary MOH (my cousin) and Best Man (FH dad). We spent $100 on his dads gift and $80 on hers. We budgeted $200 for their gifts so we were right under.

I love the $100 flight card w a cute will you be my bridesmaid note! I think that’s a great idea. Sometimes people fill these “proposal boxes” w stuff that the ladies won’t wind up using anyways... a flight card would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely the flight gift card over knick knacks in a box.

I agree with this. Help out with the flights! Proposal boxes are nice, but the flights are more practical.

I say definitely go with helping pay for flights if you’ve had positive responses from all four.

I am making mine myself. I spent about $15 on all the supplies. Im a pretty crafty person so I have an idea of what I want to do. I plan on making a paper cake box with a ring pop inside & a note that says I said yes, I hope you will too . . Will you be my bridesmaid

I didn't do this and had just one best lady, no bridesmaids. We both live simple lives and don't like a lot of stuff so it worked out. It truly depends on your girls and your style. Not necessary, you could send them a letter or card and that would be enough.

I got each of my girls a mini bottle of champagne, a bracelet they will wear on wedding day and a compact mirror. And I wrote them all a really nice card along with it. Champagne was $2.50, bracelets were probably around $2-$3 a piece and the company was $1 each. Then I had to buy bags, tissue paper and tags for each gift. I also got cute little paper straws to go with the champagne. So I probably spent around $10-$15 per girl. I really wanted to do this on a lower scale so I wasn’t setting the standards too high for their actual gift for being in the wedding 🤪

First off, I had no idea what a proposal box was. Second, now that I've figured that out, I don't think any of the big "proposal" stuff for bridesmaids is necessary. Your girls usually already know they're going to be asked. However I would not buy them their airfare until they have committed and it is close enough to be the appropriate time to buy the airfare. So perhaps just type up a nice letter that says what you want to say. That being said, I am not having any bridesmaids and feel like people feel guilted into agreeing to weddings they either can't afford or don't have the time for because of elaborate gifts. Just ask your girls simply, I promise they will love you the same for it.

GET THE GIFT CARD! That’s such a great idea and way more useful! It’s also very considerate of you to know and show that you know travel will be an added expense for them when committing. The proposal boxes are sweet and thought out but I’ve never really used the stuff in mine the couple of times I’ve received one.

I ordered necklaces from Etsy for my bridesmaids, maids of honor, junior bridesmaid, my SILs and my MIL. Then bracelets for the flower girls and suspenders for the ring bearer. Less than $200. I didn't want to go all out because there's so many. My partner is on his own for asking his friends.

I asked my girls during Christmas and made those their presents. Each one had monogram mug, fuzzy socks, lots of their favorite goodies and a note. Each box was about $25-30 for 4 girls.

I guess it’s a know your audience thing. My MOH & BM would have found proposal boxes to be absurd. I don’t recall actually asking MOH. I think we both just talked about it like it was foregone conclusion (it was of course). My BM lives several states away so I asked her over the phone.
