Proposal gifts? / wedding gift?

Nina, on June 8, 2021 at 9:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Looking for advice. I'm doing a destination wedding in Puerto Rico but it's in APRIL 2022 and I dont know how I want to do my proposal gifts for my bridesmaids. Idea #1 was wine tumblers and a bottle of wine. #2 is beach bags with bathing suit wrap, sun glasses and beach hats.

My question is should I do idea #2 as my proposal even though our date is so far away. Or should I make that the wedding/welcome bag. TIA!!!

Skip the expensive proposal gifts because despite your best intentions, they pressure people to say yes on the spot. Also they are expensive and tedious to ship cross country/overseas. Why not ask over a phone call or coffee date with no gifts and zero pressure?

To be honest all of my bridesmaids pretty much already know they are my bridesmaids. I thought the gift thing was something your supposed to do. Is it not? Because that will save me some money. Lol

Proposal gifts are completely optional. I choose not to do them. I didn't want the extra expense of purchasing them and my bridesmaids/bride's man live in different states so I didn't want to have to worry about mailing them either.

It is an invention of Pinterest and Etsy to pressure brides into spending more money on unnecessary stuff and feeling inadequate when they don’t go along. A thank you gift afterwards is required by good manners. It should be something that fits their individual interests and is completely non wedding related, so no names/titles on anything and nothing that is intended for the wedding day: robes/pjs, all jewelry, hair/makeup/dress, etc.

If you decide on doing the proposal I would go with option #2 because they can use the items in PR.

Save the money and use the gifts with the welcome bags!
