Proposal gone wrong!

Cecilia, on January 5, 2021 at 2:43 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
My fiancé proposed NY2021. The look on his face was priceless for 3 reasons. 1. He dropped the ring. 2. I said Yes! 3. The ring didn't fit. He was taken back when it didnt fit but I was so happy he didn't have a chance to be anything else but happy with me. I did laugh about it that night. It wasn't funny anymore, once we had a talk the next day when he shares with me his experience with *Zales* I felt bad for my fiancé. He had a firework show, our parents were their to witness this moment and he planned all on his own. This was his moment just as much as it was for me. He said the lady who helped him kept advising him not to resize till i went in and tried it on. He said no i definitely know her size, she can't know I'm proposing please resize it. He was asked to pick up 2 weeks later as he did. Note: We've been dating for 4 years he's bought me a ring or 2 before so knowing my size is something he has on point. So the same day when he shares with me what happen. We take it back to *Zales* to have it resized. Mind you we think its my ring size which he sized as 9.5. I'm still joking thinking wow my had gained quarantine weight too. But no the proof was there the moment the manager checked the size. The impatient jeweler who helped my love mistake was caught, the ring size was a 7. Huge difference so you could imagine the look on his face and mine. It was never resized like he asked never touched why did he even wait those 2 weeks! It was still the original size. We spoke to management that day like I mentioned he tried to give us a 20% discount on my fiance ring i was thinking of getting it for him but we said no we will wait. Did a search on *Zales* come to find out there was a actual discount promotion already on site for 20% off. So that discount had nothing to do with *Zales* employees and manager feeling sorry for there mistake. We're waiting to see what can be done manager above him is suppose to be contacting us soon. But what will be done? That was not cleared up, can't change our special moment and our disappointment. What do I do about them taking my loves money so quickly?! Rushing him out the door and taking his special moment not seriously when this is something they specialize on. All I know is 20% meant nothing , they are in the process of resizing my ring (it is insured) and management has placed a request to get my ring returned back to me the right size! sooner than 2 weeks.Proposal gone wrong! 1

    First, congrats on your engagement!

Secondly, I'm sorry they messed up like this.

I would escalate to corporate, but I'd also start looking for independent jewelers who could fix this, instead of relying on Zales.

Congratulations! I agree with Rebecca. Zales (or Kay or any of those big box jewelery stores since they are all owned by the same company- Signet Jewelers) doesn't have the best reputation for quality and customer service. Independent jewelers (with good reviews) tend to provide much better customer service.

Thank y'all. Definitely a experience we will never forget one day im sure we will sit back and laugh at the situation. For sure i won't purchase his ring from them. Definitely taking the advice about going to a independent jeweler. With great reviews!!! Thank yall again for commenting.

Such a pretty ring!! But I would recommend not going to any big jewelry stores and try to find something local for your wedding bands. There are a lot of horror stories about rings being fake, metals not being true and having filler. What a nightmare! I hope you get your ring back properly, but then start researching locally family owned jewelers in your area.

That is a bummer for sure, but I would try not to let it ruin your memory of the proposal. That part went perfectly; he asked and you said yes! Smiley heart Just like with any other customer service issue, just keep pushing back and asking for a manager. Eventually, they will have to make it right.

I’m so sorry it went so badly, but congrats on your engagement! If it helps, my husband’s proposal got ruined because he got food poisoning 😅 He literally put the ring on my finger and then quickly pulled it off and bolted out of the room to throw up. And then was like “THAT DIDNT COUNT, ILL ASK AGAIN LATER” 🤦🏻‍♀️ He ended up asking again later that night once he felt better, but honestly it was ruined and it’s a pretty awful memory hahah. It sucks but the good news is it’s just one night. You have the rest of your lives to make beautiful memories Smiley smile
