Pros and cons for disposable cameras

Haylee, on July 17, 2018 at 1:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
It's a little old fashioned since everyone has a phone that can take high quality pictures but I am thinking it would be fun to see what kind of pictures we would see from a disposable camera. Thoughts? Pros? Cons? Thank you in advance for your input Smiley smile

I understand the sentiment, but disposable cameras are getting expensive to purchase and even more expensive to develop since they've been phased out. Plus I'm not sure how many people would even use them. Unless you have room in your budget that you just want to play with, I wouldn't bother with them.

If you want to see pics that people take, I suggest creating a hashtag and have people use it when they upload photos to social media. You can use the same one for Facebook and Instagram and you do something special for Snapchat too I believe. That saves money that you’d have to spend on cameras and getting the film developed!

I disagree with previous posters. I have a friend who uses a disposable camera almost every time we go out - and she always gets candids since she isn't waiting for her phone to focus, or trying to get the perfect photo since she can't view them immediately afterwards. One of my favorite memories of my friends and I was taken with a disposable camera - I had her print me a double and it's framed. I think you'll get a lot of candid photos of your guests with these. Great idea - I say go for it!

Plus you may be paying to develop a bunch of pictures of things you don’t want pictures of. Receptions are also low lighting for photography and lots of photos will be dark and not good. Phone cameras will work better for quality of photos.

From someone who developed these back in the day when they were popular at weddings...don't do it. It is such a WASTE of money to develop and MAYBE get two useful photos. Get a snap chat filter or utilize a photo sharing app and get the ones off your guests phones.

We’re putting disposable cameras on every table because I think it will remind/encourage people to take pictures. Also we can get them developed right away!

Also keep in mind that if kids will be at the wedding, I’ve heard many stories of only the kids getting their hands on it and taking pics of the floor, ceiling, their own hand, etc. I would price out the cost of developing them first.

Generally I agree with PP and would advise against it. IF you have your heart set on it, do it as a novelty and specifically give them to the younger crowd. It might be fun to have a parent show their 15 yo how to use it. And they’d be tickled to find out how well they did without that instant gratification they’re used to. I could easily see them competing against each other!

I have been debating this myself. I do agree with all the cons, however I disagree that there are no pros. I had a friend do this at their wedding and they got some AWESOME pictures! They only had a few kids though whereas I will have quite a few.... I will also be using a hashtag, but I am skeptical if the older crowd will use it. I'm sure I will get a lot from the younger crowd though.

My soon to be Sister in law did this at her wedding. Where it could have been a really cool idea, if done correctly, hers turned into a disaster and they never even got them developed. There were children (and teens) there whom weren't supervised like they should have been and were talking inappropriate, pictures. Or just pictures of random things because one of the kids thought it was a toy camera like he had at home.
