Pros and Cons of an All Inclusive Honeymoon

Terry , on July 28, 2016 at 3:33 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 40

Evening Folks,

Our wedding date is about 345 days out, 7/7/17. I am an "active groom" and while this isnt my first post on this forum, this is the first wedding that I am helping to plan. Ive done some research and I am trying to determine if its best for us to do an "all inclusive" honeymoon and if so, what are the pros and cons if any at all? I was hoping that you all could maybe shed some light on the subject.

Thanks,

TF

Date twinnnnnn!!!!!!!! I love all inclusives because you don't have to worry about a thing! Everything is included: Food, drinks, entertainment. However more exotic locations often do not offer them such as anguilla, hawaii, etc. It depends on your budget and location. You can find some great ones in Mexico, Punta Cana and Jamaica. We definitely are doing an all inclusive for our honeymoon. Good luck!!

Are there any cons to all inclusive? We are doing Sandals Jamaica and cannot wait. Even airport transportation is included.

The only con of an all inclusive is at the end of the time you feel so bloated and hungover. Definitely have pressure to eat and drink as much as you can to make the all inclusive price worth it. It also depends on if your all inclusive includes activities and you want to do any of them.

ETA: I personally love them though, its so convenient to just wave your bracelet, sign the check and move on.

I can't think of any cons for all-inclusive. Make sure all-inclusive includes all the liquor. I remember booking a spring break trip one year and it was *all-inclusive (*does not include top shelf brands) - we stayed somewhere else!

The only con I've experienced with all-inclusive is that a lot of those resorts don't have the best food. But I'm a food snob. And actually Bahia Príncipe Runaway Bay in Jamaica had awesome food on the adults only side of the resort.

Thanks for the advice. How ironic that we have the same wedding date, lol. I will certainly look further into it though.....

One con (and the reason we chose not to do all inclusive) is that all inclusive tempts you to stay on the resort the entire time rather than going out and exploring the place you are visiting. FH and I have done all inclusive before and didn't like that we felt obligated to eat and drink there at all times. Because it has already been paid for, we felt guilty wanting to explore other bars/ restaurants in the area that were outside the resort.

We did an all inclusive with Sandals Ochi Beach in Jamaica and it was amazing. It was so nice to not just be totally relaxed and not have to worry about budgeting or how much money you are spending. You definitely get your moneys worth with all of the food and drinks! Sandals even includes water sports and airport transportation. Also gratuities are included. You really can't beat it! I agree that the only con would be that you can be tempted to stay on the resort the entire time, but most resorts offer lots of fun excursion options that let you get out of the resort and experience the culture of where you are going.

Echoing the sentiment that the only con I've experienced with all inclusive is the poor food. The buffet is usually halfway decent because the food is moving quickly and a lot of people are eating there, but the resort restaurants can be hit-or-miss. Of course, you can always go off of the resort, but you've already paid for the food at the resort.

The ones I've been to have great al la crate menus. Some resorts limit you to two per week, so make sure you can do the restaurants every night.

I'm with most PPs on no cons at all! It's so nice to go on vacation and not have to budget your meals or pay overpriced resort drink prices!!

One thing I would encourage you to look into is how many restaurants are on the property and which ones you can go to and how often. I've been to two all-inclusives. At the first one, there were two "fancy" dinner restaurants but you could only go to one of them once during your stay. The second one we went to allowed unlimited "fancy" dinners, but you had to go through an annoying reservation process to get them. Read the reviews extensively before you book. I usually find them to be informative!

I've never done an all inclusive (outside of cruises which include food & room but not alcohol). But the main reason I would want an all inclusive for the honeymoon is to avoid any arguments. I'd like to have a peaceful honeymoon. But I love food, and I love to eat good food. My FH is okay with fries most days. I don't want to argue about the food budget on our honeymoon, and I def don't want to compromise on eating what I want after dieting the last 3 months. So keep the food budget in mind.

FH and I are taking a cruise and by far the best part is now that it's paid we just have to show up. Planning a wedding takes a lot of time and I feel like having to plan all the details of a trip would be too much.

We're going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun. It's all inclusive, adults only and the reviews are amazing. Definitely worth checking into!!!

We are going on our first all inclusive for our honeymoon and I can't wait. I'm loving all the rave reviews on this post. We're headed to Jamaica. From what everyone had told me, I won't need much money while I'm there other than for excursions.

I can't think of any cons to an all inclusive. Overall it's less stressful and everything is there for you.

I love all-inclusives, but if you book the wrong one, a con is dinner reservations. If your resort requires reservations for the non-buffet restaurants, it's a huge pain. You either have to pay attention to what time the reservation desk opens for each, get off the beach and stand in line, OR decide upon check-in exactly where and what time you want to eat every night. Not relaxing! The Excellence line of resorts is no-reservations, as well as my all time fave, the Valentin Imperial Maya in Rivera Maya. I'd also highly suggest an adults-only all inclusive. A pool full of kids who have had unlimited access to sugary mocktails is my personal nightmare.

I can't seem to think of a con for an all inclusive. I guess it depends on packages, but once you are on the plane you have someone taking care of you all the time. The food can me amazing(or crappy) but that is whats great about sites like trip advisor. You can see the feedback on the resorts.

I have found the worst part being the bloating from all the eating and the hangovers from all the drinking
