Pros to Postponing

Alisha, on April 5, 2020 at 5:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

I know times are hard right now, so I thought I would try to bring a little positivity to my fellow postponing brides!👰💕

My fiancé and I were just thinking of pros to postponing and for us personally this is our list: more time to workout, more time for my hair to grow so I won't need to buy extensions, more time to save $ so we can have everything we want, more time for me to find my PERFECT dress! I was almost about to settle and wear one I don't love just because I was running out of time😬 Maybe postponing is a blessing in disguise ❤

Smiley smile that’s a great way to see things. During this pandemic I think we are all so used to seeing what we don’t have and not being grateful for what we do have

Yes! I was having a hard time with it but then my fiancé and I sat down to talk about the pros and I felt so much better! Sometimes things happen that are beyond out control, and I usually have a hard time dealing with that but I didnt want that to be the case around my wedding. This is a beautiful chapter in my life and I'm determined to see the bright side no matter what💛

We're not postponing because of COVID-19, but we are postponing because of a big planned move. The positive for us is that we can have the wedding we really wanted now. We downsized and made it simpler because of finances, but now we have time to save more money and have a real venue and more decorations. It should be really nice.

Oddly enough, our new date after postponing is the original date we had in mind (New Orleans wedding so went with Memorial Day weekend instead of Labor Day weekend initially due to hurricane season). A lot of our family and friends are industry or otherwise laid off and having to use up all of their paid leave. Postponing not only keeps everyone safe, but we aren’t putting anyone in a financial bind which was most important to us. Beyond that, we are cooped up at home 24 hours a day and getting along great, so this is basically a pre-marriage boot camp. Our vendors and loved ones were all incredible and switched with no hassle.

I was upset for a day, I truly was. But... I’m also used to nothing in my life going according to plan, and falling apart more often than not, so I’ve learned to roll with the punches and focus on what’s really important.

This is a great idea! My May wedding had to be postponed and the only other date that worked with my vendor and venue was November 8th.
    Pros to postponing:
    1. I now get to have a bridal shower. Mine was cancelled do to the virus.2. We get our bachelor and bachelorette parties 3. Dress alterations and fittings are not going to be rushed 4. I also get a chance to grow my hair out, although I probably still wear extensionsSmiley smile5. People who couldn’t /wouldn’t come before now get to come6. The new date is around the Holidays and Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite time of the year. 7. Fiancé’s birthday is in October and mine is in November so we get 2 birthdays and 1 anniversary close together every year!8. And we will have time to get a marriage license 9. And we can do engagement photos!10. It will be so magical around that time of year 11. We get to save up more money for the honeymoon and splurge12. Cheaper rates for our honeymoon for that time of year where we want to honeymoon
Great post! It brings out the positive in such a negative time.

Ugh yes!!! Love this post Smiley smile I had to postpone mine as well and definitely focusing on the positive has helped so much!! These were other things I thought of as well (which might already be mentioned here too!) I definitely agree postponing ended up being a blessing in disguise for me

    - You basically get a do-over; so anything you were iffy on and wished you could tweak or change or wish you had more time to do, now you do! (For me, I wish I had more time to do more DIY signs and decor or better plan out welcome bags, etc.)

    - Your new date is (hopefully) past all of this pandemic anxiety and hysteria, that for your new date everyone can relax and celebrate this being behind us all and can enjoy your date moreso than if you kept your original date

    - more time to workout and get in MY best shape! (I definitely made excuses before and I worked out but was still not in my own best shape I could be in) so this time, no more excuses because I am literally getting a do over and have 8 months to make it happen lol!

    - we picked a Fall date (where initially our OG date was 3/27) and I wanted to pick Fall but that was wedding season and more expensive but this go around I'm getting my dream season!
