Providing alcohol

Leanne, on January 30, 2020 at 3:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 12

Those of you that provided alcohol - Our caterer provides bartenders, but alcohol is on us. The caterer has given us two companies they tend to partner with to get our alcohol. Both of them deliver and pick up everything, and refund whatever isn't used. The question is, what is a reasonable price? An estimate the one of those companies gave me was overall $2400-$2800 for 160 people. The other said it's too far out to discuss yet and that they would reach out to us in the new year (like next new year), but they gave me averages of $8-$16 a person. Thoughts?

It depends on what you're providing. Both of those prices are extremely reasonable.

I guess I should have included that the one that estimated $24-2800 includes - Full Bar, Beer, Wine, Liquor, toast and 2 signature cocktails. The other is a variety of spirits, two beers, a champagne, and red/white wine.

Honestly, that isn't too far off from what we paid for our full bar. We went to Total Wine and brought all of our alcohol for 200 people for about 2K. We still have mixers and fruit to buy which we expect will cost another $250.

I think that's a pretty good price for a full bar

From what i've seen, that quote sounds reasonable for 160 people. we're having a brunch wedding with a limited bar - mostly champagne and we were quoted $1100 for 100 people from ABC Liquor. we wound up saving over half of that because i have an aunt who is retired from the military and we wound up getting all the alcohol from the base. Costco and Sam's also sell alcohol at cheaper prices.

The $8-$16 seems very cheap! Is that for open bar?!

Yeah, I'm wondering the same too. That price sounds really good.

I agree the $8-16 sounds REALLY cheap and I'd be sure to clarify exactly what that includes. Is it per hour or is that total per guest (and, if so, what exactly is included per guest)? Does either company's estimate include tax, service charge, and/or any delivery charges? You just want to clarify everything. For comparison, at a relatively inclusive country club-type venue, we paid $35 for four hours of premium open bar per guest (e.g., 5-6 beer selections, 4 wines, champagne, higher-end brand name liquors, soft drinks, mixers, etc.), not counting tax & service charge (about another $10 per guest) or the $100 we tipped each of the bartenders. (Full open bar for the cocktail hour was included in the total venue charge, including the food, furnishings, servers, etc.) So, the four hours of served full open bar for 100 guests was about $4700.

Nothing has been purchased yet and no quantities have been decided. These are just estimates that I was given as I started the hunt. One vendor includes Full Bar, Beer, Wine, Liquor, toast and 2 signature cocktails. The other is a variety of spirits, two beers, a champagne, and red/white wine.

    Sure thing!

We ended up purchasing the following:

20 bottles of Red Wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) - A lot of people at our wedding don't drink this which is why we got a small quantity for those that do

120 bottles of Sweet Sparkling White Wine

    8 Bottles of Whisky

8 Bottles of Vodka (We went to Costco and got a deal where if you purchased the 1 bottle of this specific vodka you get 1 free mixer!)

    4 Bottles of Gin

    4 Bottles of Rum

24 cases of 24 packs of different beers
