PSA: For those who are advocating no RSVP=no seat.

DJ, on April 21, 2016 at 7:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

We were tackling our 25 missing RSVPs. Turns out at least 3 were lost in the mail and two of those were acceptances from people that I assumed would be nos. Please follow up with your guests rather than assuming as the postal system sucks. That's all and happy Thursday!

We had this happen with one of our guests. My friend sent her RSVP the same day that she got her invitation and we still haven't received it. I only know she sent it because we were talking about how I was in a lull of RSVPs a few weeks ago and she asked if we got hers, which we hadn't at that point, and still haven't.

We even had a few people who didnt even get their invitations and we had to resend them (ORDER EXTRAS) so I would always advise to check with your guests!

I'm kind of worried that invitations may get lost in the mail as well... have lots of you had that happen?

I received an envelope (not anything wedding related) this past Saturday, 4/16. The tracking info said it arrived at my local PO on 4/4, 12 days earlier.

I am dreading this process. I think enough of our guests have been married before that they know the protocol, but you never know. Thankfully I am in touch with the majority of our guests and FH can check in with his when the time comes. Makes me nervous that we didn't give ourselves enough time though.

We had so many RSVP lost in the mail that we opened up online RSVPs before the deadline. When we did that we learned of several others that had been lost.

I am dreading this whole process of waiting for RSVPs and invites and responses being lost in the mail!! I will definitely be contacting my guests personally.

@Margaux, we actually had that happen as well. One person moved, so we were able to send an invite to their new address because we got the returned invite within a week. Another of FH's old Army buddies never got his invite, and we didn't find out until yesterday because they only talk once or twice a year. He won't be able to make it on such short notice, so I'd definitely advise just checking in with the guests you really want there a week or two after invites are sent to ensure they got them.

It doesn't seem like any of our RSVPs got lost in the mail, although one invitation may or may not have gotten lost. My cousin had the save-the-date but didn't remember seeing the invitation.

My RSVP date is today. Yesterday my uncle told my mom he's looking for his RSVP to send back to me. I thought maybe his invitation got lost in the mail too, but my mom told me he definitely did receive it, just doesn't know where he put the rsvp card.

I'm expecting at least 2 cards in my mailbox today. I have 11 that I haven't received yet, but I'm accepting verbal rsvp's at this point.

Our RSVP cards are postcards and for some reason many of our guests have lost them or accidentally thrown them away with the envelope. Not sure why this is happening but it is. Definitely at least reach out once to determine if a guest will be attending or not. If they still so not respond then probably OK to assume they are not coming.

I had at least one invitation never make it to the invitee and at least one rsvp never make it back to me.

We mailed our invites in November for Jan. 16 wedding. There were several we didn't receive and followed up with all of them. One in particular said she had sent hers the very next day after she got the invite...and I know she got it very quickly because she texted us to say how pretty she thought they were, etc. just like 2 days later (and she only lives a few miles from us) Not even kidding, we got her RSVP back 2 days after we got back from the HONEYMOON at the end of January. I mean, like 3 months later. I just can't with the USPS anymore, they're awful. But yes, always follow up with non-responders!! One thing I did notice though, which was kind of a bummer, the majority of our no-shows came from those that didn't send their RSVP but then indicated they would definitely be there when we followed up.

One of my closest friends didn't get her invitation because her mailman hates her (or keeps putting her mail in the wrong box or something). So yeah, double check!

I thought everyone followed up, and the no RSVP = no seat were for all those who never gave an answer to the follow up. I called every single person...

We had several STDs get lost in the mail when we sent those. One was for FH's aunt and uncle, and we only found out recently because FMIL ran into the aunt the other day and she seemed a little offended about not getting an STD when she knew the other aunts/uncles did. One of my friends also never received the STD for her and her husband (thankfully we're close enough that she just asked me about it). But I definitely plan to follow up with missing RSVPs - I have already now seen that the postal system is far from perfect.
