PSA: Serve Alcohol at Your Wedding

Britti, on November 18, 2015 at 3:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 206

People want to drink at weddings. People want to drink to have fun. People expect FREE alcohol at weddings. It doesn't make them alcoholics, it makes you a good host. Don't have money? Cut back on your guest list. You and your partner don't drink? That's nice, but your guests probably do.

Is it just me, or has there has been an OBNOXIOUS amount of posts recently about cash bars and alcohol free weddings, can those just stop?

That is all. Now here are some memes for your amusement.

What kills me is how judgmental some hosts of dry weddings are. The comments about "well we don't drink" or "we don't want people to get too drunk" are infuriating. Like, do you want a gold star? A lot of healthy adults like to kick a couple back at celebrations. Some even get drunk (*gasp*!). There's nothing wrong with that.

Humans have been celebrating with alcohol since basically forever. Get over yourselves.

Only thing worse than a dry wedding or cash bar is a BYOB wedding.

Yeah, I don't get the "we don't want people to get fall down drunk" camps.

My group of friends are HARD CORE drinkers.

Its not unusual for us to get completely shwasted (usually them these days..I go straight from buzzed to hangover if I'm not careful lol)...but NO ONE was that drunk at our wedding. We literally had 100 cans of beer left over from the wedding. 100. Cans. (Lucky us, they're all in our living room. ha ha)

People aren't going to get that shitfaced at a wedding, and if someone tries, a good bartender should know how to regulate.

Can I just say even as a person who is 4 years sober, I get super annoyed by the posts that use the "we don't drink" excuse or "we don't want anyone to get too drunk"...I'm sorry what?

First, that logic is utterly ridiculous, so because you make a personal choice not to partake then your guests have to do the same? Well I'm on a diet so therefore, you may not eat that donut. Second, people are grown adults who can handle themselves and if they can't your bartender/venue staff have policies in place to handle the situation.

FutureMrsC- I don't know about that. At least BYOB means I can bring what ever I want! Hahaha! (For brides considering this, don't actually do a BYOB)

Out of curiosity, because this seems to vary so much by venue (and region), what's the average budget around these parts for open bar? How many guests (and are you counting the entire list, or only people you know will drink)?

I'm working on my own budget and I'd love comparisons (not for spite).

    I don't have a clever meme.

CK- I agree with you! I feel like too many people have a dry wedding or cash bar just because it's the cheaper option..
