pto // Wedding week time off

MK, on April 27, 2021 at 3:15 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 26

What plans do ya'll have for taking time off of work for your wedding and honeymoon?

I'm getting married on a Friday, and flying out for our honeymoon that Saturday morning. I really don't foresee myself being able to work the full week of my wedding with all of the last minute things needing to be done.

Did you work the full week of your wedding? Did you get/use PTO? Or just go unpaid?

I'm in grad school, so we planned the wedding for when I would be on summer break. However, I didn't have anything to take care of until the day before the wedding. My husband worked that week and then we had a few last minute things to take care of the day before, which was all taken care of by the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner. We didn't have a ton of DIY though, so if your wedding is more DIY, I could see taking more time off the days leading up to it.

Oh nice! I don't have any DIY for my wedding, but we are doing a light breakfast buffet for the bridal party the morning of the wedding that my mom and I will put together, spray tans, nail appointments etc. that I'm more worried with!

I’m taking the entire week of and week after. Our wedding is on a Thursday and we are taking a short honeymoon to the mountains Saturday - Tuesday. My employer is very generous with PTO! My fiancé in the other hand is only taking a week off, As that’s all that he can.

I think if you plan those things out, you can get away with just maybe taking off the day before. You can maybe do the spray tan that Wednesday after work (I think you're supposed to give a few days for that to set anyway) and then the rest of the stuff can definitely be taken care of the day before. I think if you plan it out, you can get stuff done around your work schedule. If you have the PTO, why not, but if you would rather save it, I don't think you have to take off. Also, does your employer allow unpaid time off? Not many do, at least in my experience.

We're getting married on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, but my job is really busy that month, so we're waiting until October to take our honeymoon. Currently planning on just taking Thursday and Friday off, maybe leave a little early Wednesday depending on when my parents arrive in town. Then we'll take two weeks off for our honeymoon! Luckily we'll both have plenty of PTO racked up by then, and can flex our schedules if need be.

I am also getting married on a Friday and we are both taking the day before off, then the week after off for our honeymoon. I think the little things and what needs to get done depends on your venue. Our venue works with our florist and cake company so we just have to drop off our decorations to be set up and the rest is all taken care of. But if you have to do more set up, you will probably want to take at least a few days before to make sure everything is organized and ready to go because that can be a little more stressful come that time.

So I work Tuesday through Saturday so my schedule is a little different. We're also getting married on a Sunday with no honeymoon. So I'm taking off Friday and Saturday. I'll assess closer to the day off I might request Thursday off. But I won't be doing the whole week. I can't afford it.

What's PTO?? LOl... i know what it is... i just have never had a job that gives me that. if I don't work - I don't get paid... so yeh, taking 2 weeks off for my wedding/honeymoon and I am not able to be paid for it.

and my future husband's job just got bought out, so he went from getting 2 weeks paid honeymoon to now only getting 2 days paid by company and he HAS to use his vacation days towards honeymoon. ...sucks

One of the good things about our date is we get a holiday cushion for PTO purposes 😂 FH usually has the week off anyways because job sites close between Christmas and New Years so it was a non issue for him. I’m using PTO for 3 days then get 2 days of holiday pay. However, since I work in accounting and it is year end I have told my boss I’ll have my phone/laptop available on any day except the actual wedding day if she has questions.

As a teacher we have no PTO lmao. How fun! I also planned my wedding to be in the fall, and not over the summer as most teachers would plan, cuz I like to live on the dangerous side, hehe.
My wedding is on a Friday, and I plan on taking my 2 personal days the day before and also the wedding day (duh). For our honeymoon we have to wait until I’m on winter break, so we’re spending Christmas and the holidays in Hawaii!

My FH has PTO up to 3 weeks and he’s taking off no problem.

I'm having a semi destination wedding on a Thursday, so I might take off the entire week to just be stress-free and get in the mindset of my wedding. I probably only really NEED to take off Wed-Fri though.

Then 1-2 weeks PTO for the honeymoon later in the year.

It's so funny you asked this, I was thinking about it myself just the other day! My sister just got married in November and she said that most things had to be done and sent to the various vendors a month in advance so there actually really wasn't that much left to do the week before, and she only took the day before off.

I'm thinking I'll take maybe Wednesday-Friday the week of, and then our honeymoon which will be another 6 working days, making a total of 2 weeks off from work, but from mid week to mid week, if that makes sense.

Getting married on a Saturday, plan to take off Wednesday before the wedding. Still not sure about the honeymoon part but will at least be a whole week. No issue with vacation almost maxed out saving for the honeymoon. Using PTO from know til the wedding for appointment for wedding things...fittings/HMU trial/Girls weekend

Our wedding is in a Saturday. FH is still in college, so it’ll be the weekend before his Spring break, for our honeymoon. But I’ll be taking Thursday and Friday off work and then the entire next week off work, paid.

Teacher here! I get 4 personal days a school year, so I took off Thursday, Friday, and Monday for our Saturday wedding in November. (I had to save the other day for my sister-in-law’s a Friday wedding!) Luckily, Thanksgiving break was just a week and half later!

I got married on a Sunday and I took off Friday so we had 2 days before the wedding to prepare! If we had gotten married on a Friday, I probably would have taken Wednesday and Thursday off too Smiley smile
