Public Park ceremony

Colleen, on May 22, 2017 at 4:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

Hello! Has anyone ever done a public park ceremony? There is a gorgeous park near us, where we do not need a permit, so it will be free to hold our wedding ceremony. I also have chairs that a friend of mine will let me borrow. I was just wondering how the ceremony went, was there a lot of strangers walking by, did you have music, and a bridal party? How many guests attended the ceremony? Who cleaned up the chairs afterwards? Any advice will help!

We will be having a wedding ceremony at a public County park near us. Though we haven't done it yet I can tell you all set up and clean up is your responsibility, unless the people who rent your chairs to you include set up and break down. Most likely they won't. And it depends on the park as far as strangers, the park we chose has very minimal people unless there is an event on a certain day (which is another thing you'll have to consider). Also, you will have to check with the park to see if you have to rent the space you're using. Our park requires we rent the space for the day (they rent the picnic areas and the ampitheater out in order for people to use/reserve them). You also have to account for weather. Will it be hot or raining? Will your guests be comfortable? Is it easy to find? There's a lot of factors to consider

I also may be having a wedding ceremony at a public park, still trying to figure out a budget.

I was thinking of putting up a tent at the park, just in case if it rains on our wedding.

Sounds like it will be you cleaning up after the ceremony, you can't delegate tasks like that to your guests.

You will probably have to clean up after. I guess it depends on where you live and how busy this park normally is. I'm from a very small town and a friend got married at the public park and there was maybe 2 or 3 people that walked by or were in some other part of the park.

I think it depends on the arrangement of where you would conduct the ceremony in the park. I have been to a ceremony in a public park and the most notable thing was a horde of kids on skateboards that rode by, making it very hard to hear. The bride and groom just laughed it off, but placement matters! If there is a sidewalk or road nearby be prepared for potential noise.

I had mine in a state park with a reserved location. Set up and clean up were all on me and we had to do it all day of. Wayyy more stress than needed because people did pop in and some even had dogs. The savings did not make it worth it.

If you do plan on going this route, I would have you consider hiring some local high school or college students to set up and/or take down the chairs, if your rental company doesn't include that. You, your family, and your guests have more important things to worry about that day.
