Punta Cana vs. Riviera Maya

Brooke, on March 8, 2017 at 2:10 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

My fiancé and I have been looking into Punta Cana, but I would like to extend my search. I am looking for suggestions.. I saw a lot of people recommend Riviera Maya. I have also heard Punta Cana is very windy which concerns me.. Please help me! Looking for suggestions on location and resorts.

I don't think Punta Cana is terribly windy. It is a great choice for a honeymoon. Cancun and Riviera Maya are also popular choices. Some prefer Punta Cana for their beaches, especially the Bavaro Beach area.

Riviera Maya and Cancun can have some rougher entry into the water because of it's location on the coral reef. However, this makes the water amazing for snorkel and Scuba. I've personally never been too bothered by the coral.

Both destinations deliver top quality honeymoon resorts and activities if you choose to leave the resort. Your happiness will be predicated on choosing the right resort to match your lifestyle.

I don't have input on Punta Cans but after working with our travel agent she recommended Secrets Akumal in Riviera Maya and that's where we ended up booking

I went to Punta Cana last May and didn't find it windy at all. It was definitely beautiful!

So I have done the Mayan 7 times and Punta Cana 3 times. Honestly? They are pretty much the same. We were in Tulum area in Jan and it was windy some days. We have gone to PC in march and it was windy some days. For us? We really like the tulum/Akumal area. We love the village of Akumal and spend a lot of time there. But really? If you just want beaches and a nice resort they are pretty much interchangeable destinations

@Olivia-I really liked it there. Loved the adult only and quiet part. If we go back we would probably do the Akumal one. That way we get the same benefits but near the beach.

When did you go in May? Was there a bad seaweed problem?
