Pups in the wedding

Kayla, on August 12, 2019 at 4:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7

Has anyone had their pup participate in their wedding? We really don't have any young kids in our family to be a FG or RB. We like the idea of having our dogs take the place. One will be 11, so I'm not too worried about her getting down the aisle. But the other will be 3 and she just absolutely has to say hi to everyone she meets. Has anyone had their pups in their weddings? How did you do it logistically? Any training tips or tricks?

I’ve seen it done where the dog walked straight down the aisle and it was cute, and I’ve seen the dog wandering around sniffing guests during the processional.

We considered this for a long time. I would suggest to look into hiring (or assigning) a dog attendant. You probably won't have too much time during the day-of to take care of the pups so it is good to have someone exercise them and get them tired (and calm) before the ceremony!

We just attended a wedding Friday and they had their 1 year old Golden Retriever in the wedding. They had a friend walk her done the aisle.

We are having our (umm mine, but FH really loves him too) pup in our wedding. He is 10 years old, so I'm not worry, plus he is great outside. We will have 2x boys (junior groomsmen) walking him down (on a leash) & they will be armed with a pocket full of treat. My aunt has a reserved seat at the front row & will have pup duties - basically the boys bring the dog to my aunt & will meet up front & my aunt will sit with the pup on the side.

Not sure where you are located but there is a company near me called Furever Always that will be an attendant as PP mentioned. Maybe there’s something like this in your area. If we have our dog in our ceremony, we will be going this route.

We are going to have our dog as a flower girl. My plan is to rent or buy a wagon and decorate it with flowers, then clip her leash/harness to the wagon. She will run to greet everyone if we try to have her walk, and I think the wagon will be cute! My nephews will be ring bearers so probably one of them will pull her, but you could have another family member or member of the bridal party. We are also going to look into a pet attendant to manage her before and after the ceremony, but haven't priced that out yet.

Also side note, there is a company near me that manages pets for weddings and they put a go pro on the dog and then make you a video from your dog's perspective! I have no idea how much that service costs, but if you already have a go pro or can borrow one I think it sounds super cute.
