QR Code on Save the Date or Invite Insert?

Lolerskates84, on February 16, 2016 at 4:35 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

Let me start by saying that when I get an invite/save the date, I usually put it aside or hang it on the fridge but forget to put it on my calendar. I also sometimes forget to take it with me on the day of so that I can have the address and info of the wedding...and I always have a hard time finding people's wedding websites without the invitation on hand with the site written on it.

I know QRs are ugly, but I would love something that someone can scan and allow it to automatically populates their google or outlook calendar with the date, times, locations, and wedding website address. That way they dont have to worry about manually entering all the info, and on the day they do not need to drag the invite with them.

With that said....what are your thoughts on QR codes on the Save the Date or on an Invite Insert (not on the invitation itself)?

What percentage of the guest list would know what to do with the code?

    Edit: I'm with m.

I have literally never used one in my entire life. For any reason.

I have never been able to get QR codes to work, either.

I think it's a really cool idea but have a feeling few people will use it, and worse, it may confuse some of your guests.

ETA: I would LOVE to get this with a wedding invitation.

Most people won't know to use it. But I guess it won't hurt to try, although I don't know if I have heard of one code that will populate multiple calendars.

I use them, and there are free websites that can create them in sort of an image if you would like. It seems I'm in the minority, though, in terms of people being tech-savy and using them. You know your guests better than anyone else.

I'm sure most of our friends would use it. Yeah, I don't use them all that much either, but I definitely would if they came on invites or were more popular for other things. Obviously I might be in the minority.

Is there an alternative means to achieve the same goal? Just seems so old fashioned to have to enter info manually or carry an invite since everything is digital these days. Or maybe I'm just not handling it right? :p

Most guests over the age of 40 probably will not know what a QR code is (our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, close family friends). Friends and family that are your age, though, will know what they are. Some may actually find it useful, but others may not bother. You know your crowd, though, so if you think your guests would find a QR code useful, give it a try. A QR code in the corner of your STD won't make it any less functional for those who don't want to use it. Of course, you may get a call from grandma wondering what the weird picture in the corner is.

I would love that. But that's how I live my life. However most of the people I know would be confused.

Depends on how tech savy your guest list is...

I love this idea so much but I know most of my guests would be confused. I wanted to do online RSVPs only and my entire family pretty much vetoed that idea because it would be "too hard" so QR codes are out.

You did spark an idea though, I may just include an "add to calendar" link on my wedding website so those tech inclined enough to RSVP there can use it.

Maybe you can put it on an insert so it doesn't ruin the beautiful invitation. We are skipping direction cards since everyone has GPS or google maps.... maybe do a code on the insert in the place of directions?

Yeah they are ugly so I wouldn't put it on the invite itself, just the insert. And if we do Save the Dates I'd put it on the back.

Unless all your guests are tech savvy, you will confuse them. Even many who are tech savvy can’t always get them to work. So have the info available easy to read assuming guests don’t know how to use the codes.
