Quantum Leap Day Wedding Ideas?

Amada, on September 16, 2015 at 1:11 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

Hi ladies!

My fiance and I are huge Quantum Leap fans and since we got engaged this year we have been joking about getting married on Leap Day! Yes, it's a Monday but it will be LEAP DAY which goes perfectly with our theme. Plus it's in the winter up here in New York so we are hoping to find a really great rate at a venue with a skyline of the city. We have looked at a few... nothing set in stone yet but we are crossing fingers.

Anyhow... the show is based off of time travel but my ideas are running everywhere and I have no style or decor skills. We've discussed inviting people to dress up in decades of their choice to futuristic clothing like in Quantum Leap.

My Pinterest board is: https://www.pinterest.com/manadaamada/omg-i-am-getting-married

Is anyone else getting married on leap day in NY and maybe having a time travel theme wedding too? Smiley smile

We're going the library/steampunk route. But I LOVE your idea! I used to love that show too. Can't wait to hear how it unfolds. I'm going to sneak over to Pinterest to take a look at your board.

Is purple going to be one of your colors?

What kind of crowd are you inviting? Do they share this passion?

Typically, with weddings you don't dictate that people show up to match your theme. I can see including it subtly, perhaps with the table setups or the colors, but not to an extreme.

I second what Janeen said. Also, I think the idea of getting married on leap day is kind of cool. However, since it's a Monday, you may get a large number of "no" RSVPs because people can't or don't want to take off of work. Just something else to think about...

I have no idea what quantum leap is, nor would I dress up in costume for a wedding. Don't dictate that to your guests. Other than that, i recommend being subtle with your theme.

Thanks everyone for your responses! We absolutely understand the conditions to holding a Monday wedding but it's what we want. Plus his huge family doesn't always make it to everything all the time anyways so we are planning to enjoy the experience of seeing them at the next FAMILY get together they hold twice a year. It's ok. We don't want to FORCE anyone to dress up but it was kinda either the idea of allowing them too OR like Janeen suggested dressing up the tables. Maybe a 20's table, a 30's table 50's table etc... but how do we do that? Antiques? Oh and YES Brandee I LOVE Purple! I was thinking Purples, Blues, Gold, and White.

I think that those colors would be very pretty together, depending on the shades. I know not everyone is a fan of theme weddings, and I do agree little touches go a long way. But I think it's a great way to put a personal stamp on such a beautiful day. We're doing small things too since we wanted a touch of whimsy. I like the idea of different tables, but it might get a little busy depending on what you use for decorations. Maybe pick one or two things from each era that you both like and use that. You could use the same centerpiece for each table but just add those additional touches to show the time period. That way you're not overwhelmed with trying to do too much. Just an idea to throw out there. I can't wait to see pictures though I know it's a ways off.

Change your avatar Smiley smile Also, before you get your heart set on a Monday- 1) check with your VIPs to make sure it's feasible and 2) realize that many venue spaces may be closed on Mondays since their staff typically works weekends.

OH HOLY COW!! I just realized you're at like 5 months away!!! You could have a lot of fun, going back and doing a QL marathon and identifying props used in the episodes that you could recreate.... you could give each table an episode name and on the escort card put a synopsis of that episode. How unique to have each table centerpiece different... everyone will be wandering around to look at them. I can see certain guests wanting to exchange placecards to read about the table.

IF you were going to have a photobooth you could leave a small prop/disguise associated with the episode that they could use in the photobooth.

I did it! For some reason I thought my profile picture was my avatar...I didn't realize. Thanks! :p

Thanks Brandee...yeah I don't want it to be overwhelming. I might just be way overthinking things... especially since the venue we want is going to already have an amazing glass skyline view. All we really need is some small details...

If anyone has ever saw the show the control room is super colorful. Very futuristic with huge colorful blocks. Not full of flowers.... or lace. Not a typical wedding at all.

I'm thinking twinkly lights of Manhattan skyline with colorful futuristic details inside.

I think it's an awesome idea to get married on a leap day. Having people show up in costume could be difficult but period costume props in a photobooth would be a lot of fun. It would allow guests to "virtually travel through time" For your centerpieces you could incorporate old calender's or clocks all set to different times. For each table I would include a note from a person living in that time period welcoming the guests and describing life in that era. I hope this is helpful! Good Luck!

I think your reception space is perfect for your theme! P.S. I can't remember which companies they were but I know a bunch of NYC photo booth companies do green screen photo booths so your guest could pic a time period background too

I haven't watched Quantum leap in ages, I used to love that show as a kid. If you do a photobooth, Al has to be incorporated in some way or another.

Maybe something with time travel like each table is a different decade? You could have each centerpiece/tabe scape set up to the decade the table is and instead of tables 1-10, have the 20s, 30s, 50s, etc
