Question about coming off of the pill?

Mrs. Gresham, on October 6, 2011 at 12:38 PM Posted in Married Life 0 12

FutureMrsRoberts's thread made me think of something! I know that when you are on BC pill your periods are withdrawal bleeding not an actual period. So my question is, when I stop taking my BC I know i will have my week of withdrawal bleeding but what should I expect after that? Will I have a regular period too? I know everyone's not the same, I just need an idea of what to expect! Thanks Smiley smile

It's been about 6 months that I've been off the pill. I don't want to scare you, so remember you asked! I went off the pill after being on it 17 years. It has been pretty bad. My PMS has been off the charts and my fiance has been through hell every 28 days. The cramps have been so bad I've considered calling into work. It's just been really really bad. My next period is coming soon, and I decided that if it is as bad as it has been I will be getting back on the pill.

Thats what I was afraid of..... I've been taking it for 7 years and I know what my periods were like before and I had terrible acne too I was considering going off of it when this pack is done because I would be ovulating when we go on our honeymoon but I may have to wait till we get back because I am afraid of my period not being normal and I would be really upset if I started while on my honeymoon..... Are you trying to get pregnant?

I was on it for a long time but had absolutely no problems coming off of it. Just my cramps got worse.

I have been of the pill for about 3 months now. I have not had any issues at all besides it coming on at 30 days instead of 28 for 2 months. This recent month it got back on track.

The 1st week you came off did you just have your regular period or was it longer than normal? Mine are usually 6 days I'm just afraid of it lasting for like 10-12 day so something crazy like that lol

When I came off the pill I didn't get a period for nearly 8 months. It was freaky, but the Dr's said it wasn't that unusual. And if I wasn't trying to have a baby (at the time), then it wasn't too much to worry about.

When I came off, I finished a full pack. So my last pill was the last day of my period. 30 days later it came back on and stayed on 5-6 days.

Melissa - To answer your question - I'm not trying now but we were planning to try and get pregnant on our wedding night. =) Since I came off the pill we've been talking and are now thinking we might wait a year before getting pregnant. I think this period is going to answer that questions for us - if it's ok then I won't get back on and if it's horrible I'm getting back on and waiting a year. Sounds like a ridiculous way of deciding on having a baby, but we're kind of ridiculous.

Also, my first few periods were longer than normal but they went back to normal length/

I had been on the NuvaRing for a few years, and when I stopped taking it, I had my "period" like I would any other month, just for a few days and that was it. But I don't know if my periods would have been longer because I got pregnant immediately after.

I took my ring out for the last time on 3/11/2010, and I had a positive pregnancy test on 4/10/2010. I had been doing ovulation testing, and conceived right about 3/28. So it was really fast. Everyone always says it takes months to conceive after stopping birth control but that is definitely not always the case!

I plan on coming off of mine in February, in order to try and get pregnant on our honeymoon or soon after. I talked to my doctor about it and she said the good thing is to come off of it soon enough to have at least 2-3 normal cycles. Is this true? I've heard all different kinds of things, so I was just wondering. I'm also on Seasonique, so I only have my period every 3 months. Does anyone know if this will affect anything?

Kristen, I have not taken Seasonique but I was once on the Depo shot. When coming off of it, it took me about 6 months to get it fully out of my system. But then again I do not advise anyone to take that shot. It was horrible side effects during and after.
