Question / Advice / Guidance Needed! (getting ready location & transportation)

Jakki, on February 3, 2022 at 1:17 PM Posted in Planning 2 4

please disregard my typo above lol *transportation*

This may be a stupid question, but for brides that ARE NOT getting ready at the hotel they'll be staying at their wedding night, how do you plan on getting home the next day?

In all reality, I have a lot of time until my wedding, but this is constantly on my mind; where should we get ready day of? It's legit my biggest hurdle with this wedding. Like, am I overthinking it?

Our ceremony is at my fiance's childhood church in Yonkers; ceremony will be at 2:30pm. Our reception venue is in Long Island; cocktail hour starting at 7:30pm. Changing either location is non-negotiable. I was planning on us getting ready at the hotel near our venue where our room block is, but I'm nervous about how that is going to work out. With traffic concerns, we need to give ourselves 2 hours for travel to the church to be safe, so we'll have to leave around 12:30pm. That means we'll have to start getting ready at the crack of dawn and we'll need the photography pretty early, leading to a long day for them (our reception ends at 12:30am). That has me freaking out about photography vendor costs and transportation vendor costs too.

To make things easier, I was considering staying at a hotel nearby our church, or look into an air b&b. What has me stuck is figuring out how everyone will get home on Sunday. Since we'll be transporting our bridal party and parents to the church, then to the venue post ceremony for photos prior to cocktail hour, and then providing shuttles to the hotel, how will we all get our cars to the hotel to get home the next day? Am I making this harder than it is? Please help!

Does the church have a classroom or rec room they would allow you to use to get ready in? If not, see about just getting a hotel for the day of and carpool. then you coordinate later on going back to get someone's car after all the festivities are over. I do think youre overthinking this lol.

Couldn’t you just park your cars at the hotel the day prior to the wedding and rent a private car to drive you to the hotel?

My FH and I are having our wedding in Chicago, and we plan on staying at a fancy hotel down there too. I have been in the same boat as you, stressing myself out over the logistics. We’re going to be getting ready at a family member’s house in Tinley Park which is going to be a bit of a drive. I think I’m going to have my FH drive downtown in our car with his groomsmen, so he can check in to our hotel ahead of time and drop off our bags, and we’ll have our car to drive to our reception and home the next day. I was thinking about renting a limo or even an Uber XL (we’re informal) for myself, my bridesmaids, my mom, and his mom. Just to get to the ceremony venue. All of their respective partners will be driving into the city, so they will have a way to the reception venue and home.

I am in a similar situation with thinking about the guests getting home. I haven’t decided whether I’m doing transport to the venue from the getting ready houses but almost all of our party members are meeting up with a spouse or family member at the reception which gives them a ride home. Uber is an option. It’s definitely a complicated thought process so I feel your stress.
