Question for the DIY Queens! I bow down to you! LOL Help please!

FMS, the barefoot wife!, on May 31, 2010 at 4:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

I have a "Lil' Dipper' Crock pot (for hot dips and what have you) that I got at a grage sale, it's not the nicest looking, pretty beat up with scratches and what not, SO I was planning on painting it with chalkboard paint, that way I can write & rewrite what kind of dip is is it. Now, My question, Is chalkboard paint heat resistant/safe? The out side of them get pretty warm..Thanks!

There is a heat-proof paint for painting stoves. I know it comes in black, don't know about other colors. Check your local hardware store or Home Depot.

My small crock was soooo cheap, that I think I might try it anyways and see how it goes.

Don't know if it will 'stick'... because of the heat. If the outside is metal - consider painting in with the black paint they sell to paint BBQ grills. Then use magnets (either stick-ons on the back of paper or the business card magnets you can put thru a printer) to have your different labels.

I think MBM's idea is great. They sell the little tub of chalkboard paint, so you can always test it out first. And worse case scenario, paint it with the grill paint.

THanks Ladies, my only concern is putting paper on metal that gets hot might not be the greatest idea, I've had croc pots melt plastic containters before..LOL

They do get rather warm! If you used card stock, though, I think it would be ok. (with magnets behind). If you can find a SMALL can of the chalkboard paint, you can to a trial. Sounds like a fun project. Good luck!

I don't think the paper would be a problem. I just purchased a crock pot that has a card holder and a bunch of pre-printed cards that say chili, ribs, stew, meatballs, etc... that you just slip into the card holder. It's right up against the metal. But I do love the chalkboard paint idea!

Try it.....paint it and warm something up for a few hours. If it does peel, at least it won't be at the wedding!
