QUESTION IN REGARDS TO GIFT BAGS TO HOTEL GUESTS

Bergkirk, on July 17, 2010 at 8:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

OK...this is probably a silly question, but if you are a couple do you give two gift bags or one? I planned to for each gift bag - two bottles of waters, homemade cookies, map of area and activities list of area..etc and maybe something else...?? What do most people do?

I was planning on doing one per room. You could maybe double up on the cookies and small stuff if you wanted too. But i think one would be fine.

One per room should be fine as long as you double up on the consumables (water, cookies, etc.). If there are also kids in the room, then add more of the same. But each room should only need one map and list of activities. It's a good idea to include some aspirin, tissues, and anything that might be a cute souvenier of your wedding location.

Usually one per room is fine. But, if you think you'll have two couples per room (maybe people doubling up to saving money or a family with teenagers), you might want to give two bags.

Good post! One per couple and an extra one for the kids. What other things will you include in the basket? I have a friend who is flying in from Brazil and I want to make her basket extra special. Any ideas?? It's in Charleston and the wedding will be outside. I was thinking of putting a beautiful shawl in the basket 70 degrees at night just in case....

I did one per room...question to those who are talking about cutomizing for rooms with more people....how are you planning on distrubuting the bags? I ask because the way we did it was we gave the front desk all of the welcome packages and they handed them out as the guests checked in so there was no way to have specific ones designated for specific people if you know what I mean, in fact they made a note saying they could not do that. You do not want to actually be walking from room to room yourself handing them out and having special instructions for the hotel in distributing them might end up costing you more because they often charge per bag anyway, so make sure to check with your hotel's policies before planning on this.

Oh and one more cool thing about these welcome bags....a really neat thing you can add for free is an information/welcome packet about the area. What you do is contact the visitor's buruea for the city your hotel is in and tell them you would like visitor's packets for your guests. The city of Philadelphia sent me a huge box of really nice visitor's magazines filled with restaurant and local sites info...and it was totally FREE!

I agree with the others. Just one bag per room, but enough consumable items for all of the invited guests.

Sarah- In Charleston in May, you might want sunscreen and a fold out fan. It can get warm and extremely humid down there. South Carolina's motto is "Famously Hot" for a reason.

We are doing one per room. We put a magazine of the area that included everything and anything to do in Lexington, KY and the surrounding areas. The magazine also included a map. We got them from the visitors bureau for free. I am also putting two small bottles of water, hugs and kisses candy, tissues, rolaids, tylenol. Does any one know where I can find individual packets of tylenol? I tried Sam's Club but they don't have it. I may have to go gas stations and pick them up! I really don't want to do that though!

It sounds like a lot to do-- but we are hand delivering our OOT bags to our guests.... My family is coming the week before our wedding to help get things ready and I'll be spending a lot of time with them the week before. (Most things will be done before people get here, so the week really won't be too crazy.)

@Meghan - some Sam's Clubs have them in store http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=131143&navAction=. Just check the ones around you. Or, get them shipped to you.

You can also try small wholesalers (those that supply convenience stores) or check Amazon.

Another item to consider - individual packs of Pepto Bismol. Always a good idea to include in the bags.

I think it depends on the hotel if you want them to hand them out and have them be specific. My sister did that and labeled each bag with the last names of each couple, the hotel had no problem handing them out for no charge.

One per couple and if people are sharing a room one for each of them is what we are planning on doing. I would suggest not leaving the task up to the hotel, as many of my friends have said that was a huge mistake since the hotel totally messed it up. One room would have 2 bags and other rooms got none. This was a result of the hotel having other priorities that were more important than your gift bags.
